CRM Magazine Names Salesforce.com Executive Influential Leader for Second Consecutive Year

Marc Benioff, chairman and CEO of salesforce.com, honored for significant impact within CRM industry and success at proving the software-as-service model

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - September 03, 2003 - Salesforce.com®, the world leader in delivering software-as-service, today announced that salesforce.com Chairman and CEO Marc Benioff has been honored by CRM magazine as a "2003 Influential Leader." This is the second consecutive year that Benioff has been recognized by the industry-leading publication for his accomplishments in proving the viability of the software-as-service model, bringing about the "End of Software" and establishing customer relationship management (CRM) success for over 7,200 salesforce.com customers worldwide. Other honorees include Adam Klaber, IBM (NYSE: IBM); David Thatcher, Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT); and Denis Pombriant, Aberdeen Group. The full list and feature appear in CRM Magazine's September "CRM Leaders 2003" issue, and is available online at http://destinationcrm.com/articles/default.asp?ArticleID=3429.

"With Benioff at the helm, salesforce.com has added more than 1,100 customers in the past six months and has doubled its revenues, bringing it to profitability," said CRM Magazine Editor-in-Chief Ginger Conlon, in the feature piece. "People are taking notice. Benioff has been nominated to co-chair the President's Information Technology Advisory Committee and was chosen as a Global Leader of Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum. [This] has brought attention to the industry overall and has helped to prove the viability of the hosted model."

"Over the past three years, salesforce.com has grown from 0 to 100,000 subscribers who are looking to our on-demand service, not software, for real CRM success," said Benioff. "Sforce, the platform on which salesforce.com is built, promises to change the way that applications are built as significantly as salesforce.com changed how applications are delivered. As CRM magazine aptly acknowledges, the hosted model is gaining not merely legitimacy but being seen as the best choice for CRM success across companies of all sizes."

CRM magazine also cited salesforce.com's newest release, salesforce.com S3, as a top three mid-market suite CRM solution, surpassing both Pivotal and Microsoft applications. Salesforce.com S3, allows the scalable, secure management of sales force automation, campaign management, customer service and support, as well as documents and files. Salesforce.com S3 is built on sforce, the salesforce.com client/service application platform, allowing it to be easily customized by tools from BEA (NASDAQ: BEAS), Borland, Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), and Sun (NASDAQ: SUNW). The new salesforce.com Integration Server powered by TIBCO (NASDAQ: TIBX), available to salesforce.com S3 customers, offers integration with almost every corporate system including SAP (NYSE: SAP), Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL), PeopleSoft (NASDAQ: PSFT), and Siebel (NASDAQ: SEBL) applications.

"Hosted solutions are on the rise, and the company is paving the way for hosted CRM solutions that compete with traditional CRM implementations," Conlon continued.

Benioff founded salesforce.com in 1999, and has led the company to its current position as the world's most successful application utility and the first profitable software-as-service provider with 7,200 customers and 100,000 subscribers worldwide. A veteran of 25 years in the software industry, he is now regarded as a pioneer of "The End Of Software," demonstrating how on-demand applications can replace traditional software to deliver immediate benefit at reduced risk. In 2002, Benioff was chosen as a Global Leader of Tomorrow by the members of the World Economic Forum and awarded a Computerworld Honors Laureate for his visionary use of information technology to produce positive social change. In addition, for his work in catalyzing technology change, Benioff was named 'Entrepreneur of the Year' by SunBridge, the leading incubator in Japan, honored by CRM Magazine as one of the 20 most influential people in the industry, and recognized by Network World magazine as one of its elite 25 Most Powerful Vendor Executives. Prior to founding salesforce.com, Benioff spent 13 years with Oracle Corporation (NASDAQ: ORCL), holding a number of executive positions in sales, marketing, and product development.
