Carter Busse of Receives President Bush's Volunteer Service Award Given by the USA Freedom Corps employee receives presidential award at Business Strengthening America's (BSA) Northern California launch event

Bush's Volunteer Service Award, given by the USA Freedom Corps. As a champion of's commitment to giving 1% of employee time - six days per year - back to the community, Busse gave more than 100 hours in the past year to organizations in need of his service and nearly 200 hours in the past two years since formally established its service program. Busse's leadership at the company and in the community is a prime example of's contribution of 3,500 volunteer hours through 400 employees within the last year.

As a senior IT professional for the company, Busse uses his valuable skills to help fix equipment, set up networking systems and teach classes at Community Technology Centers throughout San Francisco. For a year, he went to the Community Beacon Center in Chinatown every Monday to revamp their technology systems, troubleshoot problems and transfer knowledge to teachers and students alike. After the systems at the Chinatown Center were up and running, he spent time over the next six months setting up a new computer center at a home for abused and neglected youth. Busse serves on the Steering Committee for the Foundation, working as an advocate for volunteer events and advising on grants given through the Foundation. He is also a San Francisco School Volunteer, spending a few hours each month reading with kids through the "I'm all Ears" program, leading career training at youth orientations at the office and taking urban students on mountain bike-rides through Trips For Kids. For his dedication, he was recognized as the 2002 Volunteer of the Year.

Earlier this year, President Bush celebrated the first anniversary of the USA Freedom Corps, his initiative to engage all Americans in service to their neighbors and their nation. Busse is the second employee to be honored through this initiative, following the President's in-person recognition of Steve Houck, vice president of finance at, in May 2003.
