“I place Salesforce CRM in a category alongside the internet and email in terms of what it means for business - it’s a revolution!”
Salesforce.com makes it possible for SmartWorker to develop its system without bring in additional IT resources
SmartWorker is a recruitment company operating within the Mining & Resources industries to connect high quality technical and management personnel with local, national and multinational companies. Its clientele includes half of the world’s top ten mining companies. In 2008 SmartWorker was named forth fastest growing recruitment company in Australia.
SmartWorkers customers are geographically dispersed – the mining companies operate mines all over the globe for example –which meant the recruitment consultant needed a system that could cope with the global spread. Imperative to a smooth running business was the ability to access a single source of data from any location in any time zone.
In this view, a cloud service made the most sense. Plus it was a good fit with the company’s own ‘anywhere, anytime’ work ethos, “our employees already collaborate extensively through Google Apps”, explains John Cooling, Managing director, SmartWorker.
SmartWorker deployed the market leading Service Cloud solution from salesforce.com within its Brisbane head office and Perth office, while also making preparations for expanding its functionality to the soon to be established African regional centre in Botswana.
A major deciding factor was Saleforce CRM’s multitenant architecture, which provides economies of scale in that it allows SmartWorker to build and roll out new applications on a salesforce.com platform once for the benefit of all of its offices.
According to Cooling the easy customization capability of Salesforce CRM is the most valuable asset for businesses. SmartWorker has essentially built its own unique application onto salesforce.com, incorporating recruiting, CV and salary package applications.
When it came to creating a recruiting application, SmartWorker relied upon valuable knowledge from the salesforce.com AppExchange application marketplace. “We downloaded a recruitment application, played with it and then built our own one from scratch based on what we learned,” says Cooling.
The intuitiveness of salesforce.com makes it possible for SmartWorker to develop its system without bring in additional IT resources – for example, it sent a staff member to a salesforce.com development course to for apex code development and as a result he was able to create a resume loading application .
“There is no other product like saleforce out there!” states Cooling. “I have worked in the software industry pretty much since it started and this is the most impressive thing I’ve ever seen.”
