Robin Vasan
Jason is a founder of Emergence Capital and has over a dozen years of experience in the venture capital business as a General Partner with Emergence, a General Partner with USVP and as an associate and Kauffman Fellow with Venrock, the venture capital arm of the Rockefeller family. Earlier in his career, Jason served as VP of Muzertechnika, the largest private computer and Telecommunications Company in Eastern Europe. Prior to this, he served as a strategic consultant with Bain & Company and with the investment firm of Welsh, Carson, Anderson,
and Stowe. Jason has led successful early-stage venture investments in past companies such as DoubleClick (DCLK), aQuantive (AQNT), Visual Networks (VNWK), SuccessFactors (SFSF) and Ask Jeeves (ASK) and currently serves on the boards of private companies such as Lotame, TouchCommerce, Goodmail Systems, ServiceMax, Inc, ResponseLogix and Yammer.

Jason is Chairman Emeritus and on the Board of the Center for Venture Education and the Kauffman Fellows Program, the leading educational fellowship in venture capital. Jason serves as Chairman of the West Coast Research Center for Harvard Business School and is on the Global Advisory Board. He is also a Founding Board member of Endeavor, a non-profit serving the needs of entrepreneurs in emerging markets.

Jason graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Economics from Dartmouth College and an M.B.A. from Harvard with Distinction. Upon graduation, Jason was selected for the Charles Williams Fellowship at Harvard Business School for post-graduate research in Entrepreneurship and Finance. Jason is married with two children. The most unique trivia about Jason is that he is a twin married to a twin.
Matt Holleran, Emergence Capital Partners
Robin Vasan
Matt Holleran is a Venture Partner at Emergence. He sources new investments and actively helps select portfolio companies. He serves on the board of ServiceMax.

Matt is an expert in cloud application business models and cloud ecosystems. He has specific knowledge and a unique network that entrepreneurs use to select and leverage cloud platforms, marketplaces and ecosystems. Prior to joining the firm, Matt’s team started and built the AppExchange and Force.com partner network at salesforce.com. He advises cloud platform companies and consults with companies on whether and how to work with them. He is a frequent speaker at cloud computing events.

Matt has walked in the shoes of executive teams at each stage of a software company’s development. He joined Datasweep when there were no customers and led sales, marketing and business development until the company was the clear leader in manufacturing and analytics software. At Clarify, he led a product line from no customers to market leader and then became a highly successful sales executive. At salesforce.com, Matt was a recognized leader when the company went from being an emerging US SMB sales force SaaS player to a global enterprise CRM application provider and cloud platform leader. Prior to his software career, Matt was a financial analyst in Morgan Stanley’s private equity division and worked at Bain & Company.

Matt has a BA in Engineering Sciences and Economics from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Harvard. Matt has spoken at the HBS Cyberposium and has been a guest lecturer at the Stanford Business and Engineering schools. He is happily married with two busy, great kids. He enjoys cycling, the backcountry, and reading, but lacrosse is his favorite sport.

Robin Vasan, Mayfield Fund
Robin Vasan

Robin is a software entrepreneur and investor. He invests in cloud computing applications, open source, virtualization, and security sectors in enterprise software.

Prior to joining Mayfield in 1999, Robin was a founder and/or key member of several successful software startups including CATS Software, Infinity Financial Technology, acquired by SunGard (SDS) and Risk Management Solutions.

Robin earned an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a B.A.S. dual degree in industrial engineering and economics from Stanford University. Robin has been recognized as the Top Open Source investor by Infoworld magazine and is a frequent speaker at technology and venture industry events.

Rajeev Batra, Mayfield Fund
Rajeev Batra

At Mayfield, Rajeev focuses on Software, Internet and Services.

Prior to Mayfield, Rajeev was at American Capital Strategies (NASDAQ: ACAS), Mobius Venture Capital (fka Softbank Venture Capital) and Austin Ventures. In the past, he has worked with companies such as Klocwork, Ecast and MessageCast (acquired by Microsoft).

Rajeev has held a number of sales, marketing and technical positions at high growth software companies, such as Siebel Systems, Scopus Technology and Open Environment Corporation (OEC), which pioneered service oriented architectures and n-tier computing. He was a key contributor in the company’s growth from a bootstrapped startup to its IPO and acquisition by Borland. Rajeev was also a member of the founding team of NetNumina Solutions, an IT consulting firm, which was acquired by Keane.

Rajeev received an MBA from Harvard Business School, an M.Eng. in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University, and a BSEE Honors from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Jim Goetz
Jim Goetz is a Partner at Sequoia Capital focusing on enterprise systems, cloud computing, SaaS and consumer technology enabled services investments. Sequoia Capital was an original investor in Google, Yahoo, YouTube, PayPal, Flextronics, Network Appliance, NVIDIA, Netscreen, Cisco, Oracle, and Apple Computer. Jim currently serves on the board of Admob, Appirio, Clearwell Systems, Dash Navigation, Data Connection, Jive Software, Palo Alto Networks and Widgetbox.

Prior to joining Sequoia Capital in 2004, Jim served as a General Partner at Accel Partners where he led the investments in Entrisphere (ERIC), Peribit (JNPR), RGB, and Rhapsody (BRCD) and was part of the team responsible for BroadJump (MOTV), Timetra (ALA) and Topspin (CSCO). Earlier, Jim was a Founder of VitalSigns (LU) where he went on to serve as VP/GM of the VitalSoft division of Lucent. Prior to VitalSigns, Jim was the Vice President of Network Management for Bay Networks. Prior to Bay and Synoptics, he held various product and marketing positions at AT&T, AT&T Bell Labs, and Digital Equipment.

Jim has a BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Cincinnati and an MS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.

Byron Deeter, Bessemer Venture Partners
Byron Deeter
Byron Deeter is a Partner in BVP's Menlo Park office after having previously been a successful entrepreneur, investor, and consultant. At Bessemer, he focuses on investments in the Cloud Computing, Software as a Service (SaaS), and Internet sectors.

Most recently, Byron was an executive at IBM, as a result of its 2004 acquisition of Trigo Technologies, the cloud computing company that he co-founded. At Trigo, Byron served as founding President & CEO, then became Vice President of Business Development as the company grew to profitability, 150 employees, and a $40+ million run-rate. BVP worked closely with Byron and the executive team after Trigo's founding in 1999, and invested in all institutional financing rounds.

Prior to Trigo, Byron worked in private equity with TA Associates where he focused on technology investing with investments in companies such as Kintana (acquired by Mercury Interactive). He came to TA from McKinsey & Company, where he was involved with Fortune 500 clients in the media and technology markets, and was active in McKinsey's Innovation and Technology Management practice.

Byron holds a degree with honors from UC Berkeley in political economy. He was named a California Emerging Leader Scholar and an Alumni Scholar, and was a varsity member of Cal's national championship rugby team. Byron is the author of "Bessemer's 10 Laws of Cloud Computing and SaaS" and was recently named one of the ten "Thought Leaders of the SaaS Revolution."

Philippe
Philippe Botteri is a Vice President in the Menlo Park office and focuses on the Enterprise Software, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), and Internet sectors. He is closely involved with the firm’s investments in Retail Solutions, Intego, Cornerstone OnDemand, Intacct, Eloqua and Bizo.

Most recently, Philippe was a Senior Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company's high-tech practice in Silicon Valley, specializing in the software, IT solutions, and consumer electronics industries. During his tenure with McKinsey, which started in Paris in 1998, Philippe led the development of "web 1.0" internet start-ups, pioneered the firm's work with "on-demand" software, and advised clients on sales and marketing and growth strategies. His clients included multi-national corporations and private equity funds. Philippe began his career as a business manager with the Danone Group.

Philippe holds an MS in Applied Engineering from the Ecole des Mines, and an MS in Science from the Ecole Polytechnique. He has also served in the French Navy. In addition to his native French, he is fluent in English and Italian.

Lars Leckie
Lars is a Principal at Hummer Winblad and has played a key role in the firm’s investments in Aria Systems (SaaS billing and customer management), vKernel (Virtualization Infrastructure) and EvoStor (storage virtualization).

Prior to joining Hummer Winblad Venture Partners in 2006, Lars was involved in founding and operational roles at start-up companies. He was a co-founder of AutoFarm (now Novariant), a company focused on GPS and robotics. Lars was in charge of strategy, product marketing, business development and building the sales team across three continents. While Lars spends less time programming now, he started his technical career coding and hacking computer games. He is the holder of several US patents.

Lars is an avid sailor and a former member of the Canadian Sailing Team. He represented Canada sailing Snipes in the Pan American Games as well as other international events.

Lars has a Masters of Science (Engineering) from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of business. He also holds an Engineering Physics degree from Queen’s University (with Honors).

Dan Scholnick

Dan Scholnick joined Trinity Ventures in 2007 with significant experience in mobile and Internet applications as well as enterprise and infrastructure software. Most recently, Dan founded a venture backed mobile application startup. Dan also worked for SVB Capital supporting the software and services practice for the firm’s $56 million equity fund.

Dan started his career as an early employee at Wily Technology, an application performance management company acquired by CA. As the company’s first technical hire, he collaborated with the founder to develop the first version of Wily’s flagship product. During his tenure at Wily, Dan also worked in the sales organization on pre and post sales engagements with many of Wily’s Fortune 500 clients.

Dan received his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and his A.B. in Computer Science from Dartmouth College.

Steve Gillmor

Steve Gillmor is the editor of TechCrunchIT, producer of the Gillmor Gang and one of the technology industry’s most well-known and pervasive commentators and pundits. Gillmor contributed to various publications such as BYTE, InformationWeek Labs, and has worked as Senior editor of Fawcette Technical Publications, Editor in Chief of Enterprise Development Magazine, and Editor in Chief and Editorial Director of XML and Java Pro Magazines.

Gillmor later joined InfoWorld Magazine as Test Center Director and back-page columnist. He also served as Editor of eWEEK.com’s Messaging & Collaboration Center and OpEd columnist of eWeek’s print publication. As blogging emerged, he wrote the first blogs for Ziff Davis Media, CMP’s CRN, and CNet’s ZDNet, where he remains a contributing editor. A podcasting pioneer, he developed and hosted the seminal Gillmor Gang podcast with industry notables such as Jon Udell, Dan Farber, Mike Arrington, Jason Calacanis, Michael Vizard, Doc Searls and others. Gillmor has also championed development of industry standards, most notably as co-creator of the attention.xml specification and co-founder of the Attention Trust, a non-profit organization to protect user data rights.

John Somorjai

John Somorjai is Senior Vice President, Corporate Development & Strategy of salesforce.com. He leads the evaluation, deal execution and integration of coporate strategic transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, and investments. He joined salesforce.com in 2005 having previously worked for Ingenio (acquired by AT&T), as Vice President, Business Development, responsible for partnership, sales and strategic corporate activities; and for Oracle Corporation, as Senior Director, Corporate Development, responsible for strategic transactions. Mr. Somorjai was previously Oracle's Corporate Counsel in the Corporate Legal Department. Prior to Oracle, he worked with Stroock & Stroock & Lavan and Dewey Ballantine as an Associate Attorney. He holds a B.A. from Dartmouth College and a J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley.

Peter Coffee

Peter Coffee joined salesforce.com in January of 2007, after spending 18 years as an analyst and columnist at the enterprise technology journal eWEEK (including time under its former title PC Week). Based in the Los Angeles area, he works with corporate, commercial and public-sector IT leaders and application developers to build a global community of best practices on Force.com: the salesforce.com platform for Custom Cloud computing.

Peter has 27 years' experience in guiding the adoption and management of innovative information technologies and practices as a developer, consultant, educator, and internationally published author and lecturer. He has appeared on multiple U.S. TV and radio networks, and on India's Network 18 and Mexico's Grupo Fórmula newscasts, addressing a broad range of eBusiness issues. He chaired the four-day Web Security Summit conference in Boston during the summer of 2000; he has been a keynote speaker, moderator or workshop leader at technical conferences, business and academic events throughout the U.S. and in India, Singapore, Australia, China, Korea, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, the UK, Spain, Italy and The Netherlands.

Peter was previously the first manager of PC planning at The Aerospace Corporation, where he also worked in space systems project management and in space-asset applications of artificial intelligence techniques. Before that, he was a Senior Engineer working in arctic project planning, chemical facility construction management, and alternative-fuels engineering for several divisions of Exxon Corporation. He holds an engineering degree from MIT and an MBA from Pepperdine University, where he also served as a faculty member for the core curriculum in IT management; he has held other faculty appointments in computer science (artificial intelligence) at UCLA and in business analytics at Chapman College. He is the author of two books, How To Program Java and Peter Coffee Teaches PCs.
