Responsibilities:
- Candidates must be hands on, capable of providing strategic guidance to the leadership of the business and providing strategic direction for finance and accounting operations, as well as inspire employees to do the best work of their careers. The candidate will be responsible for the accounting for salesforce’s business in the Americas and is a key liaison with the international controllers in optimizing, scaling and standardizing the company’s global finance operations and processes.
- Directs accounting operations in the Americas, overseeing all transactions related to the GL and month-end close.
- Actively involved in addressing complex financial reporting issues as they arise and providing a second opinion on the application of the technical accounting rules.
- Leadership role in defining and implementing enterprise systems and point solution system improvements
- Responsible for all internal and external audits affecting the Americas region, which represents 70% of Salesforce.com
- Supports the external reporting requirements including preparation and filing of Form 10-K, 10-Q, Form 8-K, Proxy Statement, and other periodic governmental reports.
- Define the vision and lead process redesign efforts - identifying non-value-added activities and eliminating them.
- Responsible for defining balanced scorecard metrics for the department. Establishment of goals and measurement of achievement against these goals are a strategic imperative for the company
- Responsible for monthly accounting close process which includes ensuring results are delivered on-time and accurate to the Corporate Financial Reporting team. In addition, ensuring all accounts are reconciled at month end
- Leadership role in re-designing and implementing changes to the monthly close process
- Ensure that financial activities are in conformity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), FASB, and SEC regulations, corporate policies and contracts.
- Assists in the development, maintenance and education of all major accounting policies and system requirements
- Report findings to management and where applicable manage remediation activities
- Integration of finance activities related to future acquisitions when applicable
- Ensures that the team delivers the highest standard of departmental, cross departmental and cross region customer service
Additionally, the America’s Controller will be responsible for directing and overseeing many of the aspects related to accounting, financial controls, closing the books, audits and varying aspects of Salesforce.com’s external financial statements.
The ideal candidate is a master of finance and accounting operations and will possess excellent management and leadership skills with the ability to provide clear direction to the finance staff while also functioning as an individual contributor and adding value to the growth of the business.
Required Skills/Experience:
- Recent experience as a senior level finance and accounting professional at a company with annual revenues of over $250 million required
- Timely identifies technical accounting, process-related and systems related issues, and provides hands on and strategic direction focus in addressing such issues
- 15+ years of financial experience with at least 2 years of recent relevant Controller, Assistant Controller or Business unit Controller experience
- CPA required; Big 4 experience desired
- Bachelor’s degree at minimum
- Ability to work in dynamic, fast paced, fast growing company where adaptability is imperative
- Directly supervised and made significant process improvements to the monthly close process
- Direct experience with enterprise software applications (e.g., Oracle or SAP) and participation in strategic decisions around system improvements
- Demonstrated ability to stay current with emerging trends and relevant legislation that impacts accounting and financial reporting
- Experience with varied financial reporting, accounting and business practices
- Solid understanding and hands on experience with SOX, including the ability to consider the relationship of the regulatory requirements and the organization; ability to apply the appropriate principles to business
- Successful track record in driving both strategic and operational activities. Demonstrated ability to contribute to plan formulation as well as execution
- Extreme attention to detail (the importance of detail orientation, particularly in the review of analyses cannot be overemphasized)
- Demonstrated skills in supervising, coaching staff and creating high performing teams
- Track record of inspriing employees to do the best work of their careers
- Prior experience in managing teams with over 20 staff
- Ability to interact with executives and across functions
- Ability to quickly grasp company operations and business drivers
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to articulate verbally and written, willingness to appropriately debate difficult issues; ability to think quickly and present to an audience
- Self-motivated, innovative, and ability to initiate and lead change
- Highest professional standards and personal and professional integrity
- Experience in the HiTech industry preferred
