Salesforce advocates for a more innovative, sustainable, and equitable world.

We are guided by our core values of trust, innovation, customer success, equality, and sustainability. That's why we work with government officials and policy advocates around the world to listen, gain understanding and expertise, and inform decisions that serve our shareholders, customers, partners, employees, society, and our planet.

Data Governance

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to improve the state of the world by augmenting human intelligence, amplifying human capabilities, and providing actionable insights. We believe the ethical and inclusive design, deployment, development, and use of technology is key in unlocking the full potential of AI. The benefits of AI should be accessible to everyone, and it should be safe and inclusive for all. We believe global AI should be transparent, in alignment with existing data privacy laws, technologically feasible, and should acknowledge the many roles and responsibilities existing in the AI ecosystem

Salesforce is deeply committed to the ethical and humane design and use of its technology, and our work on AI is founded on five principles: responsible, accountable, transparent, empowering, and inclusive. We recognize the transformative power of the technologies we create and their role in being a force for good around the world. To achieve this vision we commit to working with governments, business leaders, the scientific community, academics, and citizens to draw upon the expertise of recognized leaders and established frameworks to guide us as we work to ensure the ethical development and use of our products.

Salesforce representatives participate in various AI committees like the U.S National AI Advisory Committee, National Institute of Standards and Technology, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s AI Commission, and more. We are also members of the World Economic Forum’s Responsible Use of Technology Steering Committee and other global committees putting accessibility and ethics at the center of AI design and implementation.

Cross-Border Data Flows

Today’s business leaders, consumers, and citizens expect a seamless experience when they enter new markets. Research shows that more predictable and open data transfer policies correlate to stimulated economies, increased competitiveness, and new opportunities. We advocate for accessible and interoperable policies to optimize global data transfers while maintaining the highest levels of privacy and security. With Hyperforce, we provide our customers the ability to store data anywhere while achieving compliance with in-region standards for cloud services. As an example, you can learn more here about our Hyperforce EU Operating Zone.

Cybersecurity

Trust is the bedrock of our company. It is written in the DNA of our culture, technology, and focus on customer success. Salesforce builds security into everything we do so businesses can focus on growth and innovation. Nothing is more important to us than protecting our customers’ data, and we advocate for policies that strengthen our ability to accomplish that mission. We regularly collaborate with industry leaders to promote security best practices, bring together CISOs across various industries, and develop guidelines to address the evolving landscape. Further, we also look to advocate and work with governments to establish cyber rules that are responsive to the evolving landscape.

Knowing how important it is to work with global policymakers and thought leaders, we are a founding member of the World Economic Forum’s Centre for Cybersecurity. Nothing is more important to us than protecting our customers’ data, and we advocate for policies that strengthen our ability to accomplish that mission. Data Privacy and Protection

Salesforce recognizes privacy as a fundamental human right and business imperative. Salesforce supports and will continue to advocate for privacy regulations that protect people while also encouraging innovation. Global privacy laws should be transparent, provide clear definitions and standards, be technologically feasible, and have an enforcement mechanism. Ultimately, privacy is about trust. Building trust means our technologies must help our customers handle personal data responsibly, not use it for unexpected purposes, and respect individuals’ preferences.

To provide our stakeholders with information regarding our commitment to privacy, we created a dedicated site for privacy information around the globe and our transparency report. From here, you can use our Trailhead platform to learn more about privacy regulations in individual regions.

Digital Transformation of Industries and Public Sector

Salesforce is committed to innovation through the adoption of cloud computing by organizations in long-established and often highly-regulated industries. We support cloud-first policies that provide governments and businesses with a standardized way to approach the use of cloud products and services safely, and securely.

Salesforce empowers governments to meet the demands of modern missions by enabling its customers with the tools they need, on secure and scalable cloud applications to connect data, resources, citizens, and partners with reduced risk and complexity of traditional IT. Equality

At Salesforce, equality is part of who we are. Our commitment to equality is embedded across our business and is reflected in the decisions and actions we take as a company. We are working to create a workplace that reflects society, where everyone feels seen, heard, valued, and empowered to succeed. There’s more work to be done, but together, we are taking action to build a more equal workplace and world for all.

Equal Pay

Equality is a core value at Salesforce, and one of the most powerful examples of this is our ongoing commitment to equal pay and pay fairness. In 2015, we were one of the first companies to evaluate whether there were any gaps in pay among our global workforce. We’ve continued to improve upon our processes and broaden the scope of our assessment to include gender globally, race and ethnicity in the U.S., merit bonuses, and stock.

Equal Rights

We advocate for LGBTQ+ equality across the globe. Individuals should not be discriminated against based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. We also advocate for gender equity, not only through equal pay, but also by supporting pregnancy accommodation laws, paid family leave, and programs to close the gender gap in tech.

Housing and Homelessness

We believe that we must bring together diverse stakeholders to implement the most effective strategies and policies to address the housing and homelessness crisis that impacts cities. We advocate for equitable policies focused on funding sources, efficient use of resources, and utilizing technology to make data more readily available to assist with the distribution of resources to those that need it most.

Immigration

We support fair and balanced immigration policies worldwide. In the U.S., we believe that the federal government must engage in comprehensive immigration reform to modernize an inadequate immigration system into one that is both geared toward fairness for immigrants and economically beneficial for businesses. We support Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) as well as policies that reform the employment-based (EB) green card and H-1B visa systems that U.S. employers currently rely on to recruit and retain global talent.

Racial Equality and Justice

Salesforce stands against racism, violence, and hate, and is committed to driving racial equality in our workplace and our world. That’s why we assembled the Racial Equality and Justice Task Force to accelerate our efforts and drive change across four core pillars: people, philanthropy, purchasing, and policy. We are working to advance laws and regulations that protect against racism and discrimination. Our nonpartisan policy platform focuses on the following areas: police reform, civic engagement and voting rights, criminal justice reform, and economic empowerment policies that address the equity gap.

Future of Work

Education

Salesforce supports and gives back to the schools and education nonprofits in our communities. Our all-time global education investment now totals more than $160 million. To date, Salesforce employees have volunteered over 1 million hours to support education and workforce development initiatives.

Through Salesforce’s global Circle the Schools program, employees participate in volunteer activities designed to advance student skills, including literacy in elementary schools, STEM in middle schools, and college and career readiness in high schools.

Military

We know that veterans and military spouses offer unique skills that make them exemplary employees. Since its launch in 2014, Salesforce Military has upskilled and reskilled a growing community of more than 55,000 military Trailblazers with high-demand technology skills and certifications to land meaningful careers in the Salesforce ecosystem. Workforce Development and Skilling

At Salesforce, we believe in building a workforce that better represents society — not just internally, but through our partners and customers. This includes partnering with governments, public sector organizations, and nonprofits to promote inclusive economic opportunities through careers in the technology sector, educate constituents on opportunities for skills development, and ensuring programs are accessible to a diverse workforce.

In 2014, Salesforce launched its free online learning platform Trailhead, empowering anyone to learn in-demand skills, from anywhere. Our free, gamified, and self-paced learning platform, gives learners access to over 1,500 badges of marketable skills on desktop and on mobile. We are also proud to announce the launch of Trailcast, our new audio-based learning that allows learners to listen to Trailhead modules, enhancing the learning experience and bringing more flexibility to where and when you can learn — and greater accessibility for all. To connect to opportunities, anyone can join the free Trailblazer Community, a global network of millions of people who help each other along the journey of learning and succeeding with Salesforce. In 2020, we launched the Salesforce Talent Alliance, now a network of 1,000+ Salesforce organizational partners from 50+ countries who have committed to working with us to grow and diversify the Salesforce ecosystem.

Environmental Sustainability

Our sustainability vision is to leverage the full power of Salesforce to accelerate the world to net zero, lead the nature positive movement, and energize the ecopreneur revolution. We recognize that climate change is one of the most pressing issues humanity has ever faced. And the costs weigh heaviest on the world’s most vulnerable communities, amplifying global inequality.

Preventing global temperature rise from exceeding 1.5°C will require transformation at an unprecedented pace and scale — more than any country, coalition, company, or community can accomplish alone. That’s why Salesforce is committed to actively advocating for clear and consistent science-based climate policies that facilitate a just and equitable global transition to a 1.5°C future with partners like 1TT.org and the World Economic Forum. We are also committed to working with businesses and public organizations to help them achieve their climate goals Our climate policy work is guided by three key principles:

  • Reduce emissions sources and scale nature-based solutions to reach net zero emissions by 2050
  • Reorient economies and financial systems around a net zero future
  • Ensure an equitable transition to a more resilient society

Trade and Market Access

Salesforce’s business is built on global, seamless movement of data. As our customers around the world migrate to the cloud — whether governments or businesses — they need predictable global rules to foster the ability to operate in markets around the world. Salesforce supports free trade agreements (FTAs), which promote existing regulatory norms on issues such as prohibition of blanket data localization laws, IP protections, and financial services data. The digital economy is global, and public cloud services depend on the ability to operate in economies that have made a commitment to the cultivation of a healthy environment underpinned by strong regulatory norms.
