London is the capital city of the United Kingdom and the largest city in England. The ancient
City of London, to which the name originally belonged, still retains its medieval boundaries, but
the name "London" has long applied more generally to the whole metropolis that has grown up around
it.
London is the most populous city by administrative area in the European Union, with an
official population of between 12 and 14 million. Its diverse population draws from a wide
range of peoples, cultures and religions, with over 300 different languages spoken.
London is a major tourist destination with four world heritage sites, several royal parks,
and numerous iconic landmarks such as the Houses of Parliament, Tower Bridge, the Tower of London,
Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace and the London Eye. Other attractions include institutions
such as the British Museum and the National Gallery, along with a multitude of shopping, nightlife,
and entertainment venues. London's main geographical feature is the River Thames, which runs
through the city from the south-west to the east.

The Barbican Centre is the largest multi-arts centre in Europe, featuring art, film, music,

The Centre comprises the 1,949 seat Barbican Hall, the 1,166-seat Barbican Theatre, the
200-seat Pit theatre, 3 cinemas, the 1,393 m2 Barbican Art Gallery, a 2nd gallery; The Curve,
4,645m2 of foyers and public spaces, the Lakeside Terrace, a roof-top tropical conservatory, 7
conference suites, 2 trade exhibition halls, private function rooms and the 3 restaurants; Searcy’s
, Waterside Café and Balcony Bistro.

Air
London City Airport is the closest to the venue, London Heathrow and London Gatwick also serve London.

Underground
The nearest Underground station is Barbican, on the Circle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith
& City lines.To reach the Barbican,exit the station and cross Aldersgate Street in front of
you. Walk through the road tunnel (Beech Street) before taking the first turning right into Silk
Street. The Barbican is straight ahead of you. Alternatively, exit the station using the stairs to
the first floor, crossing the road using the footbridge before following the signs to the Barbican.
Other Underground stations nearby are Moorgate, St Paul's, Bank, Liverpool Street and Mansion
House.
Train
The nearest rail stations are Liverpool Street, Farringdon and Blackfriars. City Thameslink
services serve Barbican, Moorgate and Cannon Street.
Bus
Bus Route 153 stops outside the Barbican in Silk Street. Starting from outside Liverpool
Street Station, it runs daily to the Barbican, Angel and Finsbury Park. Other services running near
the Barbican are as follows: 8, 11, 23, 26, 35, 42, 43, 47, 48, 55, 56, 76,78, 100, 133, 141, 149,
172, 214, 242, 243, 271, 344 (7 days a week); 4, (Mon-Sat); 21, 25, 521 (Mon-Fri)
Car
The Barbican is clearly sign-posted and has four car parks. Two are off Beech Street
(westbound access only) and two are off Silk Street near the main entrance. Please allow plenty of
time for your journey. All car parks have a height restriction of 6'1". If the Barbican car parks
are full, alternative parking is available in Aldersgate Street.
Bicycle
The Barbican has a number of cycle racks available. Eight are located at the entrance to Car
Park 5 and five are located at the exit to Car Park 3. Cycle helmets and other equipment can be
left in any of the Barbican's free cloakrooms.

Taxi
Drivers of London's legendary black cabs have to pass The Knowledge, a two-year series of study and exams before they can join the ranks. The meter starts at £2.40 (about $4.75), and final price depends upon distance, taxi speed, and time of day. A 1-mile trip taking five minutes will cost approximately £4.35 (about $8.50) during the weekday; about £4.80 (about $9.45) after 8 p.m. and on weekends; and £5.45 (about $10.75) after 10 p.m. or on public holidays. Taxis can be hailed on the street or ordered (for a slight surcharge). Several black-cab companies can be reached via telephone through One Number taxi bookings: 44-871-871-8710. Minicabs are another option, especially late at night. Beware of unmarked minicabs; only
order one by telephone or at a minicab office (see a licensed list at
www.tfl.gov.uk/pco). Minicabs are unmetered
and charge by distance.
Coach
Coaches may set down and collect passengers in Silk Street. Limited coach parking is
available in the metered bays in Silk Street and Fore Street. For further information telephone +44
