Salesforce.com Applications Featured in Apps.gov, the GSA’s New Cloud Computing Storefront

Apps.gov accelerates the growth of cloud computing in federal government

Salesforce.com customers NASA Innovative Partnership Program, the U.S. Army Experience Center, and the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Nonproliferation and Disarmament Fund lead the charge towards government adoption of cloud computing

SAN FRANCISCO, USA & Dublin, Ireland; Tuesday, September 15th, 2009: Salesforce.com, the enterprise cloud computing company, today announced that its cloud computing applications have been selected for the General Services Administration’s (GSA) new cloud computing storefront called Apps.gov. The announcement was made today by Vivek Kundra, White House federal chief information officer, at a news conference held by the administration at NASA's Ames Research Center. The GSA’s Cloud Computing Storefront is an online site which will enable federal government organisations to easily purchase cloud computing applications for which the GSA has negotiated terms of service.

"This is a momentous step forward in bringing the power of cloud computing to government," said Marc Benioff, chairman and CEO, salesforce.com. “More than 63,000 salesforce.com customers, including almost half of all Cabinet-level government agencies, are already experiencing the benefits of cloud computing, including low risk, little upfront cost and fast time to value.”

Examples of Government Success with Cloud Computing • NASA’s Innovative Partnership Program is using Salesforce CRM to realise its vision of a 360 degree view of interactions with its external entities, including companies, federal agencies, and non-profit organisations. NASA’s Ames Research Center is managing this project. • U.S. Army Experience Center (http://www.salesforce.com/customers/education-non-profit/usarmy.jsp) is using Salesforce CRM for recruiting in the cloud which has resulted in saved time and resources. • U.S. Department of State’s Office of Nonproliferation and Disarmament Fund (http://www.salesforce.com/customers/education-non-profit/state_gov.jsp) is using the Force.com platform to provide program managers around the world with ready access to up-to-date budget information which has resulted in increased productivity.

Background and Benefits of Cloud Computing for Government • Ten years ago, salesforce.com introduced cloud computing, a new technology delivery model that allows users to access applications over the Internet without having to install and manage hardware or software. • With salesforce.com and cloud computing, customers pay as they go and are up and running in less time than it takes with traditional software applications. • Three times a year, salesforce.com customers receive an automatic upgrade that delivers new features and functionality. These upgrades do not break any customisations or integrations and are completely seamless and invisible to the end user. • Time and again, customers choose the low cost, low risk, and fast results of salesforce.com and cloud computing over expensive hardware, software, and data centers that burn through precious capital and yet rarely produce the promised returns.

Background and Benefits of the Force.com Platform and Infrastructure for Government • Force.com is a complete platform that provides users with everything they need to develop any application, on any device and deliver it to any user via the cloud. • Force.com is a trusted platform because it is enterprise-tested, serving more than 67,900 successful customers around the world. • Additionally, customers gain all the benefits of the proven security, reliability and scalability of salesforce.com's world-class global infrastructure.
