Bronx Lab School Improves Student Services with Salesforce.com

Salesforce.com's technology plays a key role in ensuring success for a New York City school funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

SAN FRANCISCO — May 23, 2005 — Salesforce.com [NYSE: CRM], the technology and market leader in on-demand customer relationship management (CRM), today announced that the Bronx Lab School is using salesforce.com's on-demand applications to capture and analyze critical data about student attendance, performance, counseling needs and other staff activities to ensure the most optimal academic environment possible. The public high school, which opened in Fall 2004, is funded in part by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The vision for Bronx Lab School is uncomplicated: with the right support, work ethic and attitude, its students can succeed. Through small class and school size, a passionate and cohesive staff committed to innovative and dynamic project-based instruction, and a non-negotiable culture of excellence, Bronx Lab's students excel. With the support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the school extends student work by offering electives in the arts, and extends its school year to include a residential summer program at the Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, CT. In an effort to make learning real, the school also requires its students to acquire experience in the adult world through internships.

Licenses were donated to the Bronx Lab School by salesforce.com in partnership with the salesforce.com/foundation. The leader in fully integrating business and the community, the salesforce.com/foundation is chartered with executing the company's goal of donating one percent of salesforce.com profits to the community annually, one percent of salesforce.com equity to its programs and one percent of employee working hours to community service.

To this end, the Foundation has teamed with salesforce.com to provide its award-winning CRM service, as well as training, administration and support services, at no cost to 400 non-profit and non-governmental organizations worldwide. The program, which has saved non-profit organizations over $3 million in product and services since its 1999 launch, enables these organizations to streamline business and fundraising processes in order to focus more resources on carrying out their missions.

Salesforce has allowed us to create a detailed student database that does much more than generate the reports we need for the city — it helps us identify students who may need extra help to stay in school. Since initially adopting Salesforce, we also went on to leverage it to deeply enhance our capacity to utilize and manipulate other key information about academic and non-academic student performance, counseling needs and staff activities."

With Salesforce, the Bronx Lab School is leveraging the benefits of a 17th-generation CRM solution, as well as new innovations, including the Customforce tool for rapid, easy customization. Using Customforce, the Bronx Lab School has been able to adapt Salesforce to meet its unique needs. For instance, school administrators can enter and share information about student counseling sessions, grades and disciplinary actions. Administrators also plan to create a custom section within Salesforce for homework assignments, which parents will be able to access via an external website.
