Freeplay Foundation and Salesforce Foundation Provide a Radio Lifeline to Africa’s Children

Challenge

  • The Freeplay Foundation provides access to education and information to people in developing countries through the distribution of wind-up and solar powered Lifeline radios.
  • Many of the Freeplay Foundation’s activities involve identifying suitable donors and managing the physical distribution of radios across the African sub-continent.
  • The Freeplay Foundation was using a myriad of systems for its business processes – including spreadsheets and paperwork – with the result that there was much duplication and no single repository of information for projects and sponsors. This fragmented approach was time-consuming.

Solution

  • The Freeplay Foundation applied to the Salesforce Foundation for a grant for Salesforce licences, and was successful.
  • The Freeplay Foundation received ten licences for Sales Force Automation (SFA) on-demand CRM solution.
  • Sales Force Automation is now at the core of the Freeplay Foundation’s sponsorship and radio distribution processes.

Results

  • The Freeplay Foundation now has a single, comprehensive and shared view of the hundreds of organisations it works with, including corporations, small companies and government agencies. This has helped strengthen relationships.
  • It is now possible to identify leads and track opportunities through the pipeline – there are no missed sponsorship opportunities.
  • Sales Force Automation has also helped the Freeplay Foundation distribute thousands of radios in Africa, by providing a consolidated view of every project, which makes it easier to identify target groups.
