They\u2019re also innovating on ways to<a adhocenable=\"false\" href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/ap\/blog\/2020\/09\/empathetic-marketing-builds-consumer-trust.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&nbsp;meet their customers with empathy and flexibility<\/a>, no matter the circumstance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To learn more about how businesses are optimising their digital-first experiences, Salesforce Research analysed data from four different research studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are the three most revealing takeaways for marketing, commerce, and service professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\"><b>56% of companies expect the majority of their revenue to come from digital channels within the next three years<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Digital-first customer engagement is here to stay. Many customers had to adopt online experiences in 2020 out of necessity. Now, many prefer to interact digitally, even as in-person experiences resume. With&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/form\/commerce\/state-of-commerce\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">68% of customers<\/a>&nbsp;saying they\u2019ll continue to buy essential goods online after the pandemic, we can anticipate a future that prioritises digital engagement over brick-and-mortar encounters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Increased online activity has allowed marketers and customer-service agents to learn more about their audiences, leading to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/ap\/blog\/2021\/03\/hyper-personalisation-customer-experience.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more personalised interactions<\/a>. This also means that customers have elevated expectations for how brands engage with them, including brands\u2019 ability to innovate and connect in new ways. For instance,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/form\/commerce\/state-of-commerce\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">78% of customers<\/a>&nbsp;say that companies should offer new ways to get existing products or services, such as digital versions of traditionally in-person experiences, while&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/ap\/resources\/research-reports\/state-of-the-connected-customer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">83% of customers<\/a>&nbsp;expect flexible shipping and fulfillment options, such as buy-online-pickup-in-store.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To better meet customer expectations, digital leaders are adopting new channels of engagement, like chatbots and self-service tools, which have been classified as \u201cemerging\u201d in recent years. Social media, video, and digital ads have become the three most common means of reaching customers, underlining the value in implementing digital-first marketing toolkits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\"><b>86% of customers want more transparency over how personal information is used<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Eighty percent of customers say the experience a brand provides is just as important as its products or services. As the world becomes increasingly digital, businesses are seizing new opportunities for capturing insights on customer behavior and preferences.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/connections\/episodes-unreg\/#future\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The most innovative digital leaders are harnessing this customer data<\/a>&nbsp;to provide a consistent, convenient, and empathetic brand experience. But this dependency on data isn\u2019t without its challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Google, Apple, and others restrict the use of third-party cookies,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/connections\/episodes-unreg\/#future\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">leaders have to rely more on known digital identities<\/a>, such as email addresses, social IDs, and transactional data to personalise customer experiences. Marketers are also faced with customer data-privacy concerns.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/ap\/form\/pdf\/state-of-marketing\/?d=7013y000000ZlRPAA0&amp;nc=7013y000000ZlRUAA0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Customers are increasingly demanding more transparency with data use<\/a>, and only 27% completely understand the way that brands collect, store, and use their data. As a result, over 60% of marketers say they are going above and beyond regulations and standards to protect their customers\u2019 privacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\"><b>83% of marketers say their work will be more technology-driven after the pandemic than before<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The pandemic brought on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/ap\/blog\/2020\/11\/salesforce-2020-customer-engagement-research.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">substantial changes in customer engagement<\/a>, but it also changed&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/ap\/blog\/2021\/02\/podcast-episode-twelve-peter-schwartz.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">how teams and organisations operate<\/a>. Work-from-home, restricted travel, and insufficient collaboration tools shed light on inefficiencies within organisational structures and processes. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/ap\/resources\/research-reports\/state-of-service\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More than&nbsp;50% of service professionals<\/a>&nbsp;say the pandemic has exposed moderate or greater shortcomings in capabilities including technology, policies and protocol, and staff skill sets.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Digital leaders are rethinking how their organisations utilise technology to operate more efficiently and better meet customer needs.
