According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.willistowerswatson.com\/en-ID\/Insights\/2020\/07\/asia-pacific-employers-prioritise-health-and-wellbeing-in-their-return-to-stability\" target=\"_blank\" adhocenable=\"false\" rel=\"noopener\">recent report by Willis Towers Watson<\/a>, supporting employees\u2019 physical and emotional health is a top priority for companies throughout the region.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two in five APAC employers said they plan to enhance mental health services and stress management. Forty percent of employers want to improve employee wellbeing programmes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Notably, more organisations in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Hong Kong, and India, are prioritising employee wellbeing programmes than other APAC regions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AFDigital is one such company that is making a strong commitment to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/ap\/blog\/2021\/02\/podcast-episode-eleven-anthea-ong.html\" target=\"_blank\" adhocenable=\"false\" rel=\"noopener\">improving employee wellness<\/a>. Founded in the Philippines in 2012, AFDigital specialises in social media marketing, customer journey automation, training, and <a adhocenable=\"false\" href=\"\/ap\/resources\/articles\/digital-marketing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">digital marketing<\/a> operations. They work with a wide range of enterprise customers and small and medium-sized businesses across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\" id=\"h-understanding-employees-better\"><b>Understanding employees better<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Pauline Pangan, Founder and Managing Director at AFDigital, says COVID-19 was a catalyst for her company\u2019s renewed focus on employee wellness.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe realised that we need to be proactive in improving our employee\u2019s wellbeing now more than ever,\u201d she explains. \u201cWe are so far away from each other because everyone is working remotely, and it\u2019s stressful because of the uncertainty about what\u2019s going to happen.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before Pangan and her team could improve employee wellbeing, they had to understand the health and wellbeing challenges her people are facing. To do this, AFDigital has taken a data-driven approach with monthly employee wellness surveys delivered through the <a adhocenable=\"false\" href=\"\/ap\/crm\/what-is-crm\/\">Salesforce CRM<\/a>. AFDigital is now able to see survey results in a wellness dashboard.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn the beginning we didn\u2019t have awareness about what our employees were experiencing, because they wouldn\u2019t necessarily come to us and say they\u2019re struggling,\u201d she says. \u201cThe survey is a safe, anonymised platform our employees can use to share their challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\" id=\"h-focusing-on-the-individual\"><b>Focusing on the individual<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Pangan says the wellness surveys help identify where employees are starting to feel challenged, and the impact this is having on their mental, emotional, physical, financial, and developmental wellbeing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe started to notice mental health becoming a challenge,\u201d says Robin Leonard, Co-Founder and CEO at AFDigital. \u201cPeople were saying they were burnt out, and had meeting after meeting with no gaps. That\u2019s where we started seeing that while it\u2019s great we were productive, it was not sustainable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leonard explains that personalised insights from the wellness surveys are helping the company take a more individualised approach to improving employee wellness. This was particularly useful during the height of the pandemic.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe were finding people who were struggling with their work because their household was struggling,\u201d he says. \u201cFor example, we could identify if our people had no space to work from home and rent them a small nearby workspace so they could safely work away from their home.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEmployee wellness has to be very one-to-one. The individualised insights coming from the wellness survey enable us to take that approach.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\" id=\"h-redefining-human-experiences\"><b>Redefining human experiences<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While Pangan says it\u2019s certainly true that happy employees are productive employees, boosting productivity is not necessarily the top priority.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are prioritising wellness as a business not just because we care about productivity. But because we want our team to be the best humans they can be,\u201d she explains. \u201cWhen they are given the tools and awareness to nourish themselves and increase their wellbeing, that\u2019s when they are able to do their best work in service to our customers. This hopefully creates a ripple effect in the community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Focusing on the human-side of the equation comes with another key benefit \u2014 fostering genuine human connections between employees. This, says Pangan, has in turn helped to create <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/ap\/blog\/2021\/03\/service-resilience-in-asia.html\" target=\"_blank\" adhocenable=\"false\" rel=\"noopener\">more authentic customer engagements<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t employ machines, we employ human beings. And they are servicing human beings,\u201d she says. \u201cIt\u2019s a very intimate type of business engagement. That\u2019s the reason why we changed our mission statement to \u2018redefining human experiences\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\" id=\"h-finding-the-bliss-point\"><b>Finding the bliss point<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Pangan says that balancing data-driven decision making with a human approach has been critical to the company\u2019s employee wellness strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have amazing technology that enables us to make data-driven business decisions\u201d, she explains. \u201cIt affords flexibility to make human emotion-based decisions, which allows us to achieve the bliss point balance of a tech-based, human-focused business.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pangan adds that recognising increased employee vulnerability throughout the pandemic has helped to build deeper connections.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCOVID-19 has opened this conversation for us,\u201d she says. \u201cIt feels like we can see each other now. We need to bring each other together and be more connected. As employers, we need to make everyone feel that we belong and care about each other.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Human capital is our greatest asset as a business.
