Starting from tomorrow morning, Salesforce is joining Tour de Cure as a partner to help race towards a finish line on cancer, one kilometre at a time.

I’m excited to watch a team of Salesforce riders set off on the 1400km Signature Tour from Sydney to Geelong.

That finish line, nine days’ hard ride away, will no doubt represent something different to each of the riders taking part, and to the family, friends and Salesforce colleagues championing them. Relief. Triumph. Pride. Remembrance. Because this is a ride unlike any other – undertaken in the name of finding a cure for cancer. It is an impressive ambition and one the Salesforce Ohana is thrilled to be taking part in.

Equality of access to treatment

Cancer, as we know, doesn’t discriminate, and there would be very few of us who haven’t experienced its impact directly or indirectly. It’s estimated that 145,000 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed this year in Australia. Cancer is a leading cause of death in Australia, with one in two Australian men and women being diagnosed by the age of 85.

The statistics can seem overwhelming. So we’re proud to be associated with this event and to be making a direct contribution of $50,000 to Tour de Cure to help support its mission to end cancer. One of Salesforce’s values is equality, and we’re passionate about supporting Tour de Cure’s mission to make sure everyone has equal access to care and support while going through cancer.

Equality of access to care and treatment remains a significant challenge in rural and regional Australia where cancer diagnosis tends to be more advanced and survival rates lower.

Tour de Cure helps fund initiatives that improve access to treatment for patients and support for carers — no matter their location, socioeconomic status or ethnicity.

Our Ohana is diverse and equality is central to our values. We believe philanthropy brings out the best in us. We believe that together, we can make great things happen.

Innovation in research

Looking to unexpected sources of new ideas and fresh approaches is one of the best ways we have of feeding the innovative efforts of our Ohana. Creating connections like this one with Tour de Cure is inspiring not only because of their mission, but because of the way that mission is being accomplished:

  • Funding emerging technologies

  • Empowering young researchers to fill critical knowledge gaps

  • Collaborating to uncover inventive solutions

Tour de Cure’s mission is bold – to help build a world without cancer – and it’s one we can tackle together.

We wish our riders good luck and we can’t wait to celebrate crossing the finish line.
