{"id":49084,"date":"2021-10-01T17:22:00","date_gmt":"2022-10-18T17:22:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/?p=49084"},"modified":"2022-11-01T22:22:48","modified_gmt":"2022-11-02T05:22:48","slug":"dreamforce-unpacked-4-ways-businesses-can-create-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/blog\/dreamforce-unpacked-4-ways-businesses-can-create-change\/","title":{"rendered":"Dreamforce Unpacked: 4 Ways Businesses Can Create Change"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>It was clear from the moment Marc Benioff stepped out on stage that business leaders were being called upon to transcend the current trust, sustainability, inequality, and workforce crisis being felt across the globe.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During Dreamforce we turned to some of the world\u2019s most influential companies, such as GE Appliances, and thought-leaders, such as Time 100\u2019s most influential, to provide business leaders with direction. And it all starts with becoming a Trustblazer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-become-a-trustblazer\">1. Become a Trustblazer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In his keynote address, Salesforce Chair and CEO Marc Benioff called upon businesses and individuals to become Trustblazers. So, what exactly did he mean and how can becoming a Trustblazer create change?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To start, a Trustblazer is an evolution of a Trailblazer, where a business looks at the current trust crisis and chooses to tackle it head on. And since business is the greatest platform for change, Benioff shared a look at the Trusted Enterprise playbook as a way for businesses to transcend the trust crisis and become a Trustblazer. You can dive into the full Trusted Enterprise episode on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/plus\/experience\/Dreamforce_2021\/series\/Best_of_DF\/episode\/episode-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Salesforce+<\/a>. Here are the highlights:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>1. Trust<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>With <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/resources\/research-reports\/state-of-the-connected-customer\/?d=7013y0000029ku0AAA&amp;nc=7013y0000029ku5AAA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">89% of customers<\/a> saying how a company acts during a crisis demonstrates its trustworthiness, businesses need to reflect their core values in their actions to establish a foundation of trust with their customers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>2. Customer First<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>With customers wanting more direct, trusted relationships, it&#8217;s no surprise that being a Trusted Enterprise means being customer first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>3. Health and Safety<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Being a Trusted Enterprise means putting health and safety first. Dreamforce itself was an incredible example of this, with Benioff calling out testing procedures \u2014 some involving the mailing of q tips \u2014 required to make the in person aspect of the Dreamforce 2021 a reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>5. Sustainability&nbsp;<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The last piece to the Trusted Enterprise playbook is all about doing good for the planet \u2014 because there is no planet B. Every company is going to have to pay attention to its carbon footprint and join the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/unfccc.int\/climate-action\/race-to-zero-campaign\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Race to Zero<\/a>,\u201d where more companies commit to 1.5\u00b0 Celsius science-based targets.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s why Salesforce built our Sustainability Cloud 2.0,\u201d exclaimed Benioff. And that brings us onto our next point for business leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"2-lean-into-sustainability-technology-and-data\">2. Lean into sustainability technology and data<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It was clear from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/plus\/experience\/Dreamforce_2021\/series\/Best_of_DF\/episode\/episode-14\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sustainability Priorities<\/a> in the Race to Net-Zero session that real change doesn\u2019t come from the top down. Businesses need to democratise it within their organisation and make their mission and actions clear to their customers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/sustainability-research-on-the-climate-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">72% of people<\/a> saying that emission reductions should factor into operations, and only 31% of people trusting businesses to do so, there is a huge trust gap. Which is why business leaders need to tap into technology to help close that gap and act on sustainability.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To showcase how business can lean into technology Sustainability Cloud\u2019s General Manager, Ari Alexander, spoke with GE Appliances and Telus Communications about their sustainability goals. Despite being from very different industries, they shared a common view: the importance of data that tools like Sustainability Cloud can provide about a company\u2019s environmental impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re hearing more and more about the circular economy, yet we have limited resources,\u201d says Geoff Pegg, Director, Sustainability &amp; Environment at Telus. \u201cBusinesses need to be concerned about this. To that end, one of the most important aspects is data. What are we learning and how can we leverage it? It\u2019s why we partnered with Salesforce and Sustainability Cloud, so we can make the right decisions in respect to the circular economy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Viren Shah, Chief Digital Officer at GE Appliances agrees: \u201cThe future is about data. How do we use data collectively? That is the next frontier for sustainability. Well Olympic gold-medalists Aly Raisman and Blake Leeper revealed all to Salesforce\u2019s CMO Sarah Franklin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For USA Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman, she turned the saying \u201cpractice makes perfect\u201d into her life motto. Not only did she practice every day, but she recorded herself so she could see where she nailed her technique and where it needed improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But it was Paralympian Blake Leeper who provided the quote all business leaders and professionals need to live by: \u201cDon\u2019t ask \u2018why me?\u2019, ask \u2018why not me?\u2019.\u201d By fostering the right mindset and figuring out how to make himself better, Leeper was able to reframe challenging situations into ones that he could overcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, how do you tap into that gold medal mindset? Make space for the generation of tomorrow<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In one of the most inspiring panels on the Dreamforce stage, Eddie Ndopu, Human Rights Activist; Nice Nailantei Leng&#8217;ete, Global Ambassador Amref and TIME 100; and Kristy Drutman<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Founder and Content Creator of Brown Girl Green, shared how Generation Z are determined to hold themselves and others accountable on society\u2019s most pressing issues \u2014 and why business should make space for them if they too want to create change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&quot;Sometimes we think we know everything, but we don&#39;t know. The future I want to see is one where girls have a voice,\u201d Leng\u2019ete shared. \u201cBut to change culture takes time. And you have to be prepared to talk less and give others more time to talk. You have to make space for all voices\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Making sure that the right voices are heard was a common message to business leaders from each of the activists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having been frustrated with the storytelling on climate change, Drutman started Brown Girl Green to uplift the voices of climate change affected communities left out of mainstream media. \u201cHow are you going to come up with solutions [to global problems] if you don\u2019t have the right people in the room?\u201d Drutman asked.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Ndopu the words \u2018possibility\u2019 and \u2018disability\u2019 belong in the same sentence. \u201cTo tackle the biggest issues of our time we need to do so inclusively,\u201d says Ndopu. \u201cWe need to pass the mic and amplify the voices
