As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/blog\/4-ways-to-reduce-tech-bloat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">Justin Le Roux<\/a>, SVP, Chief Operating Officer, Salesforce ANZ &amp; ASEAN advises, beware \u201cthe trap of adopting new tools just because they\u2019re available.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Appliance company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/customer-success-stories\/fisher-and-paykel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">Fisher &amp; Paykel <\/a>have avoided this trap by maintaining a laser focus on improving the customer experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, customer interactions were inefficient and impersonal. Calls to service centres began with requests for serial numbers and customers often had to repeat themselves as they were transferred to different service reps. And when an on-site technician visit was required? The customer could expect to stay home most of the day waiting for them to show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With<a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/products\/service-cloud\/overview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\"> Service Cloud<\/a>, operators now have immediate insight into the caller through access to a 360-degree view of the customer. And answering the same question twice is a thing of the past.\u00a0Moreover, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/products\/service-cloud\/field-service\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">Field Service Lightning<\/a> customers can track the arrival of their technician then rate the service provided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-be-transparent-and-ethical-in-your-tech-choices\">2. Be transparent and ethical in your tech choices<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/resources\/research-reports\/state-of-the-connected-customer\/?d=7013y000000ZsyyAAC&amp;nc=7013y000000Zsz3AAC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">State of the Connected Customer<\/a> report shows 61% of consumers are comfortable with companies using relevant personal information in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/blog\/ethics-personalization-strategy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">transparent and beneficial manner<\/a>. That caveat \u2014 transparent and beneficial \u2014 is critical and businesses must abide by it if they want to build trusted relationships with their customers. Seventy-nine percent of consumers say they\u2019d more likely trust a company with their information if its use were clearly explained. So trust your beacon when deciding on tech solutions or you end up with technology that alienates the very customer you\u2019re using technology to help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-look-for-ways-to-make-life-easier-through-automation\">3. Look for ways to make life easier through automation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAutomation is a big focus for us,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/blog\/building-a-case-for-service-transformation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">Katrina Trenkner<\/a>, Program Director, Customer Capability at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/customer-success-stories\/nib-travel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">health insurance group nib<\/a>. \u201cWe don\u2019t want agents to do anything we can easily automate. We\u2019ve set our sights on automating menial tasks so agents can focus on great service, not admin.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To this end, nib integrated Service Cloud to enable agents to quickly surface the information they needed to support customers by automatically linking policy details to incoming enquiries. The result? A reduction in average handling times of just under 50%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Service Cloud has the added benefit of transcribing all voice calls in real-time so agents don\u2019t need to take notes. And real-time translation services means transactions can be completed in the local language of nib\u2019s many overseas customers.\u00a0nib are in good company, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/resources\/research-reports\/state-of-service\/?d7013y000000vbhiAAA&amp;nc=7013y000000vbhdAAA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">State of Sales report<\/a> finding 65% of high performing service organisations use automation, with time-savings the number one reported benefit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-4-use-ai-to-boost-productivity-and-efficiency\">4. Use AI to boost productivity and efficiency<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s a lot of hype around artificial intelligence (AI) and business leaders could be forgiven for finding it hard to see the benefits for the buzz. The challenge when making decisions about how AI might play a role in your tech strategy is to identify the potential business value, then figure out what AI tools might deliver it. Decision-makers might also find themselves having to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/blog\/4-creative-ways-to-make-ai-the-new-team-member-your-sales-reps-will-love\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">navigate resistance <\/a>or scepticism so building trust and providing appropriate training will be critical to any integration of AI into your business.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Choosing the right AI-powered tech for your business can have potentially huge cost-saving and productivity-boosting benefits.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/resources\/research-reports\/state-of-sales\/?d=7013y000002RDBDAA4&amp;nc=7013y000002RDB8AAO\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">State of Sales report<\/a> found high performing sales organisations are 1.9x more likely to use artificial intelligence (AI) than underperformers and 41% say AI delivers a major improvement on forecasting and use of sales reps\u2019 time.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AI-powered automation can also help meet the demand for personalisation at scale by enabling faster response times, surfacing relevant data at the right time, and triggering follow ups so complaints don\u2019t go unaddressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/customer-success-stories\/fisher-and-paykel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">Fisher &amp; Paykel<\/a> use this capability, for example, to automatically trigger a new user case when a customer records a less than ideal feedback rating after a technician visit.
