{"id":50371,"date":"2020-04-09T18:19:00","date_gmt":"2022-10-18T18:19:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/?p=50371"},"modified":"2022-10-28T13:48:28","modified_gmt":"2022-10-28T20:48:28","slug":"leadership-and-creativity-insights-from-soledad-obrien-and-sheryl-crow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/blog\/leadership-and-creativity-insights-from-soledad-obrien-and-sheryl-crow\/","title":{"rendered":"Leadership and Creativity:  Soledad O\u2019Brien and Sheryl Crow"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-soledad-o-brien-leaders-rise-to-the-occasion\">Soledad O\u2019Brien: leaders rise to the occasion&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In times of unprecedented crisis, like the one we are living in, there are opportunities for true leaders to rise to the occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That was one of my main takeaways from a conversation with Soledad O\u2019Brien, the award-winning journalist who\u2019s chronicled more than her fair share of seismic global events over the course of her career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEvery disaster I\u2019ve covered \u2013 the tsunami, Hurricane Katrina, Haiti earthquake \u2013 these are opportunities where I\u2019ve seen leaders emerge. They\u2019re just tests,\u201d she told me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is a really great time to see which of your employees are the ones there during a crisis. People in the workplace want a chance to lead, even in a pandemic. Giving people the chance to run something is quite a big vote of confidence. And you need them \u2013 so it works both ways.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The conversation with Soledad is part of our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/blog\/category\/leading-through-change.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Leading through Change content series<\/a>, aiming to inspire and help during this time of uncertainty. I believe that, for the marketing community, it\u2019s important to be hyper-sensitive now to what people are going through. If you don\u2019t have something relevant and helpful to say, consider taking a step back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That said, the rules for content creators are radically changing in this new homebound economy. As CEO of Soledad O\u2019Brien Productions, she sees opportunity for her 11-person company to be creative, with remote video interviews at the forefront.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHow do we think of shooting things that don\u2019t require you to be next to somebody?\u201d she said. \u201cPeople can shoot themselves now and the quality of video is great \u2013 that kind of opens up a lot of new pathways.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-sheryl-crow-creativity-is-borne-of-necessity\">Sheryl Crow: creativity is borne of necessity<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><br>The idea that creativity is borne out of necessity was also something I discussed today with Sheryl Crow, the nine-time Grammy Award-winner who joined us from her home studio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen this whole thing started happening [&#8230;] we made three lists. We made a list of things I have to do, things I want to do \u2013 like that I&#8217;ve never done \u2013 and ways to give back,\u201d Sheryl said. &#8220;I\u2019ve always believed boredom is the greatest proponent for creativity. Now [my kids] are literally using boredom to figure out ways to create worlds around them.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are just a few of the many subjects we touched on in today\u2019s discussion: from managing today\u2019s deluge of news to supporting the small businesses that need us most to a little forecasting around where Soledad thinks things will land once this pandemic is over.
