Why? Because customers want to be seen as individuals, and they feel it when you see them as generalised personas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Findings from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/resources\/research-reports\/state-of-the-connected-customer\/?d=7013y000000ZsyyAAC&amp;nc=7013y000000Zsz3AAC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State of the Connected Customer Report<\/a>, which combines insights from 13,000+ consumers and nearly 4,000 business buyers worldwide, show what could be at stake for a company if they don\u2019t create a personalised customer experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than half \u2014 56% \u2014 of customers expect offers to be personalised. Companies that don\u2019t tailor their experiences to an individual&#8217;s needs may risk losing customers altogether. Customers\u2019 loyalties can\u2019t be taken for granted, with 71% of consumers saying they\u2019ve switched brands at least once in the last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Personalised engagement should also encompass how and when a brand interacts with a customer \u2014\u00a0and a unified, speedy, omnichannel, real-time experience is what they are demanding.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-quote-article\" style=\"\"><div class=\"wp-block-quote-social-wrapper\"><figure class=\"wp-block-quote-article-quote\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>83% of customers expect to interact with someone immediately when they contact a company, and 78% of customers have used multiple channels to start and complete a to not only deliver great customer service, but to also stand for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/blog\/identify-corporate-purpose\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bigger purpose<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this purpose to really sing in your customers\u2019 eyes, it needs to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/blog\/customer-experience\/\" target=\"_blank\" behind climate change or publicly speak about moving the dial on gender equality, you need to show how you\u2019re contributing to these causes in the actions you take each day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"making-the-data-work-for-you\"><span>Making the data work for you <\/span> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With customers making countless online interactions, the opportunities to create personalised engagement from customer data has never been richer. But the sheer scale of what\u2019s possible presents a challenge: how do you use all that data to optimise for the individual, in the moments that matter?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gathering, analysing and unifying data in productive \u2014 and non-invasive \u2014 ways is key to building the foundations of a truly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/blog\/communications-service-providers-customer-data\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">personalised customer experience<\/a> and shaping a satisfied customer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For a 360-view of the customer at all times, you need to bring all of their data together and use AI to join the dots across all customer touchpoints, so you have all the context you need to provide a full tailored CX.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While collecting data can offer invaluable insight into your customers\u2019 preferences, if you\u2019re not transparent about your processes and the type of data you\u2019re collecting, you could risk losing your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/blog\/build-customer-trust\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">customers\u2019 trust<\/a> altogether.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As with any collection of personal data, addressing customers\u2019 privacy concerns needs to remain front of mind. This is especially so given that 74% of customers say communicating honestly and transparently is more important now than ever before, yet 64% of consumers say most companies aren\u2019t transparent about how they use personal information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To retain your customers\u2019 trust when collecting data, keep the following tips in mind:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Explain your reasons for collecting certain data. If it\u2019s to form a better picture of your customers\u2019 values so that you can adjust your business model to meet their needs, then tell them. 79% of consumers say they\u2019d be more likely to trust a company with their information if its use were clearly explained. Customers are more likely to be on board with data collection if they\u2019re aware of the end goal.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create a privacy policy so that the information is clearly laid out and accessible to customers&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Establish opt-in mechanisms. For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you\u2019re in marketing, try personalised messaging to deliver relevant offers to your customers. Try personalised messaging to share what actions you\u2019re taking to support a particular cause that\u2019s important for that particular customer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For customer service, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/blog\/insurance-predictive-analytics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">predictive tools<\/a> help agents solve problems before the customer has realised they exist.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>AI can help automate manual, time-intensive tasks so sales reps can spend more time building valuable relationships with customers. Side note: sales reps report that they spend only a third of their time selling \u2014 we think that has something to do with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/resources\/research-reports\/state-of-sales\/?d=7010M000000O4ncQAC&amp;nc=7010M000000O4nXQAS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">less than half expecting to attain their quotas<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Could part of your profits go towards a particular non-for-profit organistion? Could customers have a choice of four charities so they\u2019re exerting some choice and able to select a charity that feels personally significant for them?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But of course, customers don\u2019t see any rep or agent as part of one of those departments.
