{"id":51267,"date":"2019-03-27T19:08:00","date_gmt":"2022-10-18T19:08:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/?p=51267"},"modified":"2022-11-06T20:00:16","modified_gmt":"2022-11-07T04:00:16","slug":"salesforce-ai-research-team-expands-to-singapore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/blog\/salesforce-ai-research-team-expands-to-singapore\/","title":{"rendered":"Salesforce AI Research Team Expands To Singapore"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Salesforce AI research team has just expanded to launch our first hub outside Palo Alto, in Singapore\u00a0\u2014 a natural choice with its diversity of talent and its world-class universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Salesforce Research Asia team will be helmed by Dr Steven Hoi, who joins us from Singapore Management University where he was Associate Professor in the School of Information Systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ll be working with local world-class universities to develop AI talent and the AI ecosystem in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, partnering to train up to 100 postgraduate students over the next three years in AI, deep learning, machine learning, natural language processing and more. And as we\u2019re growing and developing the ecosystem of AI researchers in Asia, we\u2019ll be tapping into the wealth of experience in these universities and the innovation of these students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We know APAC is a hub for technological innovation&nbsp;\u2014&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/a.sfdcstatic.com\/content\/dam\/www\/ocms\/ap\/assets\/pdf\/misc\/innovation-eyes-on-asia-ebook.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">our recent research found<\/a> that 78% of Asian companies, and 84% in Singapore, find AI appealing&nbsp;\u2014 and that the Singapore government is focused on developing AI talent for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIncreasingly, we are establishing our foothold for AI talent in this region as we gear towards Industry 4.0, underpinned by incredible innovation and growth,\u201d Minister S. And we\u2019re still working on natural language processing (NLP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For years, deep learning for NLP hasn\u2019t been taken seriously, viewed instead as an outdated concept from the \u201990s&nbsp;\u2014 it was an uphill battle to get papers placed at conferences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But it is truly the most exciting research field at the moment. That same IDC research I mentioned above found that of the companies that planned to adopt AI within two years, 30% were focused on voice and speech recognition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve already published multiple papers on NLP and machine learning with the goal of building a unified approach to language understanding, and we\u2019ve made incredible strides to advance the state of the art in NLP&nbsp;\u2014 from advancements in text summarisation to insights on building more efficient natural language interfaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This research will drive entirely new ways of interacting with computers, allowing machines to better understand natural language and make interactions more intuitive&nbsp;\u2014 and it\u2019s now a global effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"advancing-ai-research\">Advancing AI research<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Salesforce Research team is committed to advancing AI research to bring new levels of knowledge and productivity to everyone.
