And AI-powered technology isn\u2019t just for large enterprises \u2013&nbsp;many small businesses are also enjoying the benefits of AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It comes as no surprise that nearly three-quarters of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) will invest in software and apps over the next year, according to a 2018 Vistage survey. Galvin was joined on stage by Admir Hadziabulic, Director of Support Services at HCSS, and Ali Moshfeghian, Chief Operating Officer of Xtreme Lashes \u2013 both of whom are using AI to power their businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Galvin opened the session with a bold affirmation: \u201cAI is in your future\u201d. Hadziabulic put his finger on one of the key differences between AI and BI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith BI, you have to depend on somebody to analyse the data, and then tell you what to do next. Whereas, AI is prescriptive. It tells you, \u2018This is what you should do next\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Vistage, they lay the difference out like this:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Business intelligence is:<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li> <p>Predictive analytics.<\/p> <\/li><li> <p>Answers the question: What will happen going forward?<\/p> <\/li><li> <p>Example: Based on past performance, your business is likely to lose these particular customers next quarter.<span style=\"color: var(--c-nero); font-family: var(--f-secondary); font-size: 1rem; letter-spacing: 0.0012em;\"><\/span><br><\/p><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Artificial intelligence is:<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li> <p>Prescriptive analytics.<\/p> <\/li><li> <p>Answers the question: What would happen if I took a particular action?<\/p> <\/li><li> <p>Example: You\u2019ve considered offering a new pricing model to certain at-risk customers. For this to work, AI could show you how many customers you might retain as well as what rules should govern who you offer the new pricing to.<span style=\"color: var(--c-nero); font-family: var(--f-secondary); font-size: 1rem; letter-spacing: 0.0012em;\"><\/span><br><\/p><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Getting comfortable with human-led predictive analytics can be a great first step towards embracing AI\u2019s prescriptive methodology. For example, HCSS successfully used BI to identify at-risk customers and also raise NPS scores, which paved the way for deeper dives into data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBI gave us the confidence to know that the data was correct,\u201d said Hadziabulic. \u201cAI now lets us expand on that knowledge to look at every single thing we do in a new way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"smbs-shouldnt-be-intimidated-by-ai\">SMBs shouldn\u2019t be intimidated by AI<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>Getting started with AI in your SMB is a lot easier than it probably sounds. If your business runs on a platform like Salesforce, most of the heavy lifting is already being done for you. Your business data already lives on a platform that houses AI models ready for you to tap into. As Moshfeghian put it: \u201cGet in there and experiment! Don\u2019t be intimidated by AI.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, that\u2019s exactly how Xtreme Lashes got going with AI. Their first attempt was foiled by improperly formatted data. But they didn\u2019t give up, they kept going. It was a tip from the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/success.salesforce.com\/featuredGroupDetail?id=a1z30000006IDcCAAW#a0L3A00000UJkb3UAD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trailblazer community<\/a>&nbsp;that helped them clean up their records that made their second attempt a lot more successful.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-quote-article\" style=\"\"><div class=\"wp-block-quote-social-wrapper\"><figure class=\"wp-block-quote-article-quote\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote has-small-font-size is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cGet in there and experiment! Often, the trainers use before and after pictures to assess the stylists\u2019 work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere&#8217;s a lot of admin work by the trainer to upload and classify the images,\u201d Moshfeghian said. \u201cAnd they\u2019re doing this after running a 12-hour class session.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fortunately, his team found an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/appexchange.salesforce.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AppExchange<\/a>&nbsp;solution that trains Salesforce\u2019s AI-powered Einstein to classify images using AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt does a pretty good job classifying someone with eyelash extensions versus someone without them,\u201d Moshfeghian said. Not only is AI saving the trainers from some of the tedious work of image classification, but it\u2019s also giving them time back to prepare for the next day\u2019s class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both Hadziabulic and Moshfeghian emphasised the need for agility and experimentation in today\u2019s fast-changing business landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re not always pushing yourself to try new things, you\u2019re going to become a dinosaur,\u201d Moshfeghian said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hadziabulic reminded Dreamforce attendees that there\u2019s no better time to get started with AI than today: \u201cStart early.
