Here\u2019s a step-by-step guide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Facebook Audience Insights enables you to tap into a wealth of information that\u2019s shared publicly on the social media platform. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/blog\/2017\/05\/small-business-and-tech--a-marriage-made-in-cx-heaven.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Combine these insights with what you already know about your customers<\/a>, and you\u2019re in a powerful position to create some super valuable and highly informed customer personas to back up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/blog\/2017\/02\/master-the-art-of-social-media-marketing-without-spending-a-cent.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">your paid or organic social campaigns<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why do you need customer personas?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>So, why bother in the first place? Creating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/blog\/2016\/07\/how-marketers-can-make-every-email-personal--hint---its-to-do-wi.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">detailed customer personas<\/a> will help increase customer retention and customer acquisition. Personas enable you to improve your products and services based on your top customers\u2019 needs. It will also help you create social media posts and content that appeals to your customers \u2013 taking them to the next point on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/blog\/2017\/04\/the-ultimate-marketers-guide-to-customer-journey-mapping.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">customer journey you map for them<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because you\u2019re creating engaging landing pages, social media posts and advertising campaigns \u2013 content that talks directly to your top customers \u2013&nbsp;you\u2019re likely to attract more customers of a similar mindset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 1: Import an existing customer list<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have a customer list or database with your customers\u2019 email addresses or phone numbers, then you can use Facebook Audience Insights to gain additional information about these customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Start by exporting this list into a text or CSV file. Next, go to Facebook Ads Manager; under the Tools menu, select <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ads\/manager\/audiences\/manage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Audiences<\/a>. There you\u2019ll see a dropdown menu called Create Audience; in that menu, choose Custom Audience. Follow the prompts to upload your list to create your Custom Audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After Facebook Audience Insights processes the uploaded list, you\u2019ll see a \u2018Ready\u2019 notification. Now you\u2019re ready to analyse your Custom Audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2: Analyse your Custom Audience<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Start this process by going to your <a href=\"https:\/\/facebook.com\/ads\/audience_insights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Audience Insights<\/a> tool, which is found under the Tools menu in your Facebook Ads Manager. You\u2019ll then be prompted to choose an audience to analyse. Select one or more of the Custom Audiences you\u2019ve created. Also when reviewing specific insights, double check the audience percentage that was used to collect the data. This is shown at the bottom of certain charts, like Household Income and Home Ownership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"no-customer-list-thats-ok\">No customer list? That\u2019s ok<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you don&#8217;t have access to a customer list, you can still use Facebook Audience Insights to gather valuable information about your customers. Following the steps above, instead of selecting a Custom Audience, you would just choose either \u2018Everyone on Facebook\u2019 or \u2018People connected to your Page\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is useful if you have&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/blog\/2017\/05\/-3-ways-to-use-predictive-analytics-to-boost-your-marketing.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a general idea about the type of people you want to target as customers<\/a>. Or, if you have some big brand competitors, you can enter them as an Interest to see information about the people who like that brand. Otherwise, you can play around with the filters to see insights on your potential customer base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"step-3-create-your-customer-persona\">Step 3: Create your customer persona<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that you\u2019ve reviewed the Audience Insights, it&#8217;s time to create customer personas. You can create one or multiple personas, depending on how complex your business is. The idea is to make your customer persona specific, like a real person. For example, your customer persona might sound something like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cKatherine is a 56-year-old married woman. She\u2019s university-educated, works in health care, and has disposable income. She drives a mid-size car and tends to purchase products in stores, opposed to online. She predominately purchases clothing, beauty, and pet products. She listens to country music and loves watching the ABC. Her favourite not-for-profits include Australian Red Cross and Animal Welfare League Australia. In her spare time, she likes gardening and camping.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you&#8217;ve written your persona, find a photo that you think best captures the essence of that person.
