That quickness drives growth, nurtures innovation, and strengthens differentiation from competitors.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And all the better for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/tableau-analytics-bundle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">companies using Tableau in their tech stack<\/a> \u2014 these Trailblazers report 29% faster time to insight and faster delivery of business driving reports, and an average 26% decrease in time required to analyse information.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-artificial-intelligence-and-machine-learning-take-the-guesswork-out-of-decision-making\">Artificial intelligence and machine learning take the guesswork out of decision-making<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Companies that still rely on institutional knowledge and gut feelings to guide decision-making are leaving money on the table. With artificial intelligence and machine learning, organisations can make efficient and informed decisions that feed into ROI.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-strategic-work-keeps-employees-engaged\">Strategic work keeps employees engaged<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When data analyses guide routine decisions, employees spend less time on basic tasks that add no value, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/blog\/3-ways-to-boost-employee-engagement-and-growth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">more time focusing on strategic work<\/a>. Indeed, for sales teams, for example, data and automation work hand-in-hand to cut down on non-selling tasks.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The results, as Preena Johansen, Trailblazer and Tableau Ambassador points out, are higher performing, more agile and more engaged teams who can provide a better experience for the customer. And given <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/resources\/research-reports\/state-of-service\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">85% of decision-makers agree there is a direct link between employee experience and customer experience<\/a>, empowering employees to work strategically with data is a win-win.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-s-the-difference-between-being-data-driven-and-data-informed\">What\u2019s the difference between being data-driven and data-informed?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In a data-driven organisation, all or most employees can find and analyse data, extrapolate what it means, build a dashboard, and use data to decide the next steps. Employees don\u2019t rely on people to do this \u2014 automated dashboards do the hard work for them, so they can focus on the analysis. Being data-informed means making decisions based on a mix of data, internal research, personal experience, and insights. Data-informed organisations may or may not possess the data skills of data-driven ones.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-where-to-start-when-building-a-data-culture\">Where to start when building a data culture?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Creating a data culture, says Wendy Beda, chief Data Officer at Salesforce, \u201crequires a change in attitude from not just the data team or those that are using data, but really the entire executive team and their willingness to be able to engage with data on a day-to-day basis.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CEOs face countless decisions about where to start when building a data culture. To overcome decision paralysis and start building a community of data champions, Wendy suggests starting small. Find something that has garnered interest or a group who are motivated to make some progress in the data space then build on that.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her other recommendation? Bring your colleagues along for the journey.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf you have some interest in that space already and there\u2019s someone you can easily bring with you to learn more and help propagate that message across your organisation, do it.\u201d A small use case can go a long way to convincing the sceptics that data can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/blog\/4-great-examples-of-anz-businesses-using-data-to-change-their-business\/\">help the organisation accomplish goals faster and with more impact<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With that in mind, here are some suggestions for building an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/blog\/transurbans-data-culture-drives-better-insights-better-experiences-and-safer-roads\/\">organisation-wide data culture<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Choose the right team members<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Equip your team with the right training and technology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Test your assumptions on a small scale and iterate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prioritise data culture\u2019s human element<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-1-choose-the-right-team-members\">Step 1: Choose the right team members<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Create a working group that includes diverse colleagues from across the organisation. These team members should bring a collaborative mindset, differentiated skills and abilities, and distinct organisational perspectives. Make sure you include executives, line managers, data engineers, developers, and machine learning architects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-2-equip-your-team-with-the-right-training-and-technology\">Step 2: Equip your team with the right training and technology<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Education and coaching are critical here. As Preena says, training people to understand how to work with data is an important part of democratising that data so anyone in the business can make data-based decisions. \u201cTraining can be anything from learning technical skills on platforms like Tableau to data communication and data ethics,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/blog\/financial-services-automation-for-efficiency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">easy-to-use technology<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/blog\/what-is-trailhead\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">free learning platforms like Trailhead<\/a>, you can connect team members and enable them to unlock hidden insights.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-3-test-your-assumptions-on-a-small-scale-and-iterate\">Step 3: Test your assumptions on a small scale and iterate<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Test your assumptions on a small scale and iterate. You\u2019ll know you\u2019ve hit a winner when your colleagues can measure the value of your project on their bottom line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-4-prioritise-data-culture-s-human-element\">Step 4: Prioritise data culture\u2019s human element<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Only human eyes can determine if bias has influenced the conclusions so avoid <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessthink.unsw.edu.au\/articles\/insurance-ai-discrimination\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">indirect discrimination<\/a> by not taking data at face value.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, postcodes: at face value, they are nothing more than a location indicator. Data-informed decisions, reduced consultant attrition, increased sales, and a 50% reduction in time preparing key reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-take-the-next-step-to-build-your-data-culture\">Take the next step to build your data culture<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Look, this is hard stuff. It will take time, trial and error, and a culture shift. These things don\u2019t happen overnight. However, leading companies <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tableau.com\/sites\/default\/files\/2021-05\/Tableau_WhitePaper_US47605621_FINAL-2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">encourage experimentation<\/a> because they believe not being data-driven is the bigger institutional hazard.
