Seems like an odd question to ask, but research shows why it\u2019s relevant.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to our latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/resources\/research-reports\/state-of-sales\/?d=7013y000001zAj1AAE&amp;nc=7013y000001zAihAAE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">State of Sales report<\/a>, sales reps only spend one-third of their time on revenue-generating tasks. The majority of their days get bogged down by housekeeping duties, such as logging customer information and manually building quotes and contracts. Yikes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It doesn\u2019t have to be that way. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/resources\/articles\/sales-operations-101-form\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">Sales operations<\/a> can help automate those extra to-dos, getting your reps back to doing what they do best: selling. How? By deploying sales automation tools and processes to get your team working smarter, not harder. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are three ways sales ops and technology can help eliminate time-consuming tasks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-reduce-superfluous-data-entry-like-the-logging-of-sales-data-and-customer-notes\">1. Reduce superfluous data entry, like the logging of sales data and customer notes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One in four sales reps would rather wait in line at the post office than manually enter customer information, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/future-of-sales-research-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">a recent Salesforce survey<\/a>. That\u2019s because taking notes after each call cuts into valuable selling time. Fortunately, automation can significantly lessen the volume of data entry your reps have to do (and the time spent on it) without sacrificing precious customer insights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe most obvious task to automate is always going to be data entry,\u201d said Valerie Papa, a manager on the revenue operations team at <a href=\"https:\/\/andela.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">Andela<\/a>, a remote engineering services firm. \u201cWe hate for sales reps to spend time entering meaningless data or data that could be pulled automatically from elsewhere.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To address this challenge, the best sales ops teams study the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/resources\/articles\/sales-process\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">sales process<\/a> from end to end and constantly ask: what if a tool can do this process?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-salesforce-blog-newsletter-signup prevent-bottombar-overlap layout layout-sales\" >\n\n\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"wp-block-salesforce-blog-newsletter-signup__title\">\n\t\t\tGet sales articles selected just for you, in your inbox\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/au\/form\/other\/blog-newsletter\/?d=7013y000000ZfAjAAK&#038;nc=7013y000000ZfAoAAK\" class=\"wp-block-salesforce-blog-newsletter-signup__cta btn btn-lg btn-primary\" target=\"_blank\">\n\t\t\tSign up now\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Papa has successfully cut down on administrative clutter by asking folks across her firm about what clogs their day, and then suggesting the right sales automation tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe build automations that have information flow into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/products\/sales-cloud\/overview\/\">Salesforce<\/a>, whether it\u2019s concerning account opportunities, quote lines, or contacts,\u201d Papa said. \u201cBy using lead and contact management tools like LeadIQ, we\u2019re able to fill in more blanks for reps so they don\u2019t have to go searching for things. We also avoid duplicative data entry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Automatic call dialers and recorders, like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/products\/sales-cloud\/features\/lightning-dialer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">Sales Cloud Lightning Dialer,<\/a> also help by logging inbound and outbound calls in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/products\/sales-cloud\/overview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">CRM software<\/a>, providing better insight to sales managers about rep performance \u2014 and giving reps easy access to customer insights that help them close more deals. They work by showing whether the call was answered, the call duration, and what was achieved during the call.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pair this with tools like Einstein Activity Capture, part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/products\/sales-cloud\/features\/sales-cloud-einstein\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">Sales Cloud Einstein,<\/a> and you can automatically sync email and real-time CRM data so reps are always working from the latest information and focused on the most current tasks.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe sales rep\u2019s job is to sell effectively,\u201d said Kenny Goldman, co-founder and partner at <a href=\"https:\/\/kicksaw.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">Kicksaw<\/a>, a sales ops consulting practice. \u201cPart of that entails data administration and data entry, but they shouldn&#8217;t be relied upon for your entire process to flow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-quote-article\" style=\"\"><div class=\"wp-block-quote-social-wrapper\"><figure class=\"wp-block-quote-article-quote\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Sales reps are human, and they&#8217;re going to make mistakes. They&#8217;re going to be inundated. They&#8217;re going to have other priorities. They&#8217;re not incentivized to enter data into a CRM every day. They&#8217;re incentivized to close revenue.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps even more important, manual data entry is inefficient and delays updates to deal records, which means reps and sales leaders eyeing deal progress don\u2019t have access to the real-time information they need to make smart selling moves.&nbsp; That\u2019s why companies that protect their sales reps from extraneous data entry with automation achieve results.&nbsp; A study from research firm McKinsey shows that automating data entry and lead management can help reps spend 15% to 20% more time selling, leading to more closed deals. Speed up how your team prioritises leads and opportunities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Choosing the wrong opportunity to chase can result in lost time, and more promising leads can slip through the cracks. Sales reps need to give the most effort and attention to deals with the highest chance of closing to hit their quota. How? By leveraging the most impactful, relevant, and current lead information. Recent Salesforce research reports that nine out of 10 salespeople say intelligent insights, like up-to-date information on leads,&nbsp; help cut closing times significantly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The right intelligence <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/eu\/products\/sales-cloud\/tools\/high-velocity-sales\/\">tools<\/a> can prioritise leads for you, ranking them by the highest likelihood to close and routing them to reps along with relevant lead information, updated in real time, to accelerate the sales cycle. This ensures the intelligent recommendations CRMs deliver reps are focused on the best opportunities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve seen teams waste a lot of time chasing leads that are unqualified or not relevant because the lead scoring systems were not in good shape,\u201d said Sarah Borrmann, director of sales productivity and operations at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.illusivenetworks.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\">Illusive<\/a>, a cybersecurity solutions firm. \u201cIt was my responsibility to recalibrate a lot of that activity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Borrmann adds, \u201cThere is no better way to increase productivity than by using these tools because the automation is all there.
