Salesforce Foundation Announces New College Scholarship Program

Six exceptional high school seniors chosen today as the first recipients of the BizAcademy College Scholarship Program

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — January 24, 2006 — Salesforce foundation, the global leader in integrating philanthropy and business, announced today the winners of salesforce foundation BizAcademy college scholarships. The inaugural college scholarship program is for graduates of BizAcademy, a week-long program teaching entrepreneurship and providing internships to over 20 underserved San Francisco high school students. Winners were selected based on academic performance, community stewardship, leadership skills, family college history and financial need.

Six exceptional students were chosen by salesforce foundation to receive college scholarships:

  • Alice Li and William Zhou won annual scholarships of $5,000 each.
  • Christina Lam, Justin Louie, Jennie Pang and Kristle Quan won annual scholarships of $2,500 each.
"We're excited to award college scholarships to these six outstanding students," said Suzanne DiBianca, Executive Director of the salesforce foundation. "The primary goal of BizAcademy is to provide young people with the tools they need to be successful in business and in life, and these six students have the leadership, aptitude, drive, and motivation to become tomorrow's leaders. The Foundation is proud to have made a positive impact on their lives and plans to replicate the success of BizAcademy in London, Dublin, Tokyo, and New York this year."

Through its goal of donating 1% of profits to the community annually, 1% of equity to its programs and 1% of employee working hours to community service, the Foundation aims to create successful communities by serving youth and non-profits through volunteerism and technology-based programs. Launched in June 2005, BizAcademy is a partnership between the Foundation, the San Francisco Unified School District, and SF-based non-profit, BizWorld. BizAcademy teaches entrepreneurship to juniors in high school from underserved schools during a week-long intensive training program. volunteers train students to design, manufacture, market and sell a product of their choosing and run the various functions of their "company" using a customized version of the product.
