Tony Prophet is chief equality officer of Salesforce. Prior to joining Salesforce, Prophet served as Microsoft's corporate vice president of Education Marketing, where he defined the Microsoft Education business model, channel and market strategy. He was co-executive sponsor of Blacks at Microsoft (BAM) and founding executive of BlackLight, an organization empowering black marketers at Microsoft. Prior to Microsoft, he led operations for HP’s Printing & Personal Systems business as a senior vice president. He also held executive positions at United Technologies Corporation (UTC), Honeywell and was a partner at Booz Allen Hamilton. Prophet serves on the board of directors of Gannett and is chairman of the Transformation Committee.
Throughout his career, Prophet has worked as a champion for human rights and social justice, including protecting the rights of young workers, educating female workers on health issues in developing countries, improving schools for children of migrant workers and addressing the root causes of migratory worker flows. He is also passionate about community service, focusing on ensuring low-income teens get college educations, as well as improving health care for children and HIV-positive women in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Tech start-up investor Steve Baxter is a proud Queenslander, born in the remote town of Cloncurry and raised in Emerald in the State’s central highlands. He left school at 15 and joined the Army, enlisting in its apprenticeship program. There, he became a technician working in the field of electronics, telecoms and guided weapon systems.
In 1994, at the age of 23, Steve put his life savings of $11,000 on the line to launch his first start-up, the pioneering internet service provider SE Net, from the spare room of his Adelaide home. Servicing more than 35,000 customers, SE Net was eventually acquired by Ozemail/UUNet under the stewardship of its founding Director and now Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull.
In 2001, Steve teamed with a schoolmate to launch his second start-up, PIPE Networks, a provider of wholesale telecoms infrastructure that was listed on the ASX in 2005. Eight years later they sold it to the TPG Group for $373 million. Steve spent a year working with Google in California in 2008, leading a project to deliver high-speed telecommunications systems across North America.
Since 2010 he has become a major early stage investor in startups leading to the founding of Brisbane tech startup co-working space River City Labs, foundered and underwrote the Startup Catalyst and River Pitch programs; he has been on the listed boards of Vocus Telecoms, Indoor Skydive Australia Group and OtherLevels as well as being on the board of Commercialisation Australia. He has been heavily involved in the early days or founding of numerous industry groups and forums such as the South Australian Internet Association, South Australian Internet Exchange, Australian Domain Name Authority, AuDA, INTIAA, IIA, AusBone and AusNOG. He has been a Shark on Channel 10's Shark Tank Australia for the past three seasons.
In 2006 Steve received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for the Northern Region. In 2016, Steve received the Pearcey Medal for Lifetime Achievement in recognition of distinguished lifetime achievement and contribution to the development and growth of the Information and Communications Technology Industry. Steve is married and the proud father of 4 year-old daughter and is a keen private pilot and recreational fisherman.
As a 19 year old university student Jack Manning Bancroft took 25 of his fellow students to a local high school in Sydney to mentor 25 Indigenous Australia kids. The intent was to give these kids, and the uni students a chance to build a better future for the nation. On that day AIME was born.
At 22, Jack became a CEO, and today AIME lays claim to being the most successful program working in Indigenous education in Australia’s history. Kids completing the program are doing so at the same rate as every Australian child, effectively closing the educational gap.
AIME has mobilised more university volunteers over the last decade than any program we have seen before. The numbers are staggering with over 7,000 uni students volunteering since ’05 – a generation of young leaders building relationships with young Indigenous kids. Over the last decade more than 13,000 Indigenous kids have broken the mould and cast off the chains of inequality.
This year with over 100+ staff AIME will work with 6,000 Indigenous kids, and engage 2,000 uni students as they march towards working with 10,000 Indigenous kids around Australia by 2018 and achieving educational equality in a generation. As a business AIME has become the envy of many. Voted the 13th best place to work in Asia, winning awards from the likes of Google, running it’s own clothing brand, AIME has continued to innovate and lead the business community and has gained recognition from established thinkers including Commonwealth Bank CEO Ian Narev who described AIME as ‘arguably the greatest startup story in Australian history” and journalist Jeff McMullen who has seen the worst of the world but who views AIME as “the one idea that has given him the most hope in his lifetime.”
It’s a legacy to be proud of, with so much potential still to come, as evidenced by Jack becoming the youngest person in Australian history to receive an Honorary Doctorate from University of South Australia and an Honorary Fellowship by the Western Sydney University for his contribution to Australian education.
Over the coming years Jack is set to take AIME to the world to help rip generations out of inequality.
Dr. Catherine Ball is an author, founder, and ethics advocate working across global projects where robotics and new technology meet environmental protection. A sought after voice in industry, Dr. Ball is now the CEO of an Australian startup working with the application of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) aka drone technology across remote communities, schools, industry, and citizen scientists.
Dr. Ball is leading the call for discussions around the ethics of spatial data, aka geo-ethics. Dr. Ball’s biggest passion is found working on projects that have a humanitarian aspect, ranging from the use of RPAS for emergency response, to recording cultural heritage, and agricultural assessments. Dr. Ball has travelled and worked globally on cutting edge projects that combine science, entrepreneurship, empowerment, education, and training.
Her most recent works in Queensland involve the training and education of indigenous rangers to use drones as part of their work, thereby reducing health and safety risk, and increasing the efficiency of data collection. This will lead to indigenous owned “drones as a service” companies being created, and the data analysis and GIS training also provided to support the rangers, and create economic enterprise.
Dr. Ball is also talking with a number of Queensland schools about the processes to establish ‘Drone Academies’ on site, as the new drone economy is estimated to be worth some USD20B per annum by 2020, with 10% of future jobs attached to the drone economic ecosystem. Catherine believes there needs to be discussions around flying safely and ethically, and these need to start as soon as possible.
Dr. Ball continues to support Australia as being the world leader in the non-military application of drone technology, also known as “drones for good”.
A believer in appropriate data, not open data, Dr. Ball is currently starting a new business looking at the future data management needs across our geospatial industry, especially when faced with new technologies, such as drones, that produce a lot of data very quickly.
Dr. Ball holds a BSc Honours (Environmental Protection) and a PhD (Spatial Ecology, Descriptive and Predictive Statistics) from the University of Newcastle–upon–Tyne in the United Kingdom.

Mel Russell commenced working at Soldier On in January 2016 as the Empowerment Program Manager and is now the National Transitions Director. Mel studied Communications at the University of Wollongong and worked in media research for some time prior to joining the Army in 2010 as an officer in training at the Royal Military College at Duntroon. Due to continued injury and illness, Mel separated from the ADF and secured a role in the Australian Public Service within Defence. It was during her time with Defense that Mel connected with Soldier On and watched the organisation grow in the support it was providing ex-service men and women. As the National Transitions Director for SoldierOn, Mel and her team of Veteran and Family Support Officers, are focused on supporting veterans, and their families, into employment and education opportunities, while ensuring they are supported through all other programs and activities Soldier On has to offer.

Her diverse variety of careers: a ‘Girl Friday’ in a rural Forestry Commission where she leased bee sites and tracked tree felling; a registered nurse in a major Melbourne trauma hospital and senior roles in banking, have all lead to the creation of her business.
Andrew has worked in Broadcast and Digital Media Strategy for the past 25 years, and has worked with some of the biggest brands including Viacom, MTV, Sony Music Entertainment, Austereo and Microsoft. Starting in television production, programming and audience strategy, he moved overseas to live in Hong Kong and New York, and has led the creative and programming teams in the launch of MTV Networks across the Asia Pacific Region.
Returning to Australia, he took his international experience and drove the international marketing of Australian Artists overseas, including the incredible success of Tina Arena’s career in France, and Silverchair’s “Neon Ballroom” release globally. He was the Managing Director of Soundbuzz, a digital music company which built and provided music download, streaming and content services for Telstra, Optus, ninemsn, Yahoo and Nokia – well ahead of its time – before the launch of Apple’s Itunes.
Overseas beckoned again, Andrew built and led Microsoft’s Online Publishing Division across the Asia Pacific Region, living in Singapore and Tokyo, and was part of the International Leadership team that managed the MSN service as well as content applications across all devices.
He now consults and mentors media and technology companies, is an active lifesaver at Bondi Beach, a member of the Lifesavers With Pride committee, and is honoured to be able to contribute his expertise to help the Pinnacle Foundation grow and positively improve the lives of young LGBTIQ in our society.
In 1987, six-year old Deng was taken away from his family's banana farm in South Sudan and conscripted into the Army. Between the ages of 10 to 13 he was seriously wounded three times before being smuggled out of the country with the help of his brother. The boys spent time in a United Nations Compound in Kenya where they befriended an Australian couple who sponsored them and brought them to Australia.
Deng and his brother arrived in 1998 and settled in Blacktown NSW. Deng worked at a local service station to learn English, enrolled at TAFE and completed his Advanced Diploma in Accounting before deciding to study law. In 2005 he enrolled in a Bachelor of Laws at Western Sydney University and became the first person in his family to graduate with a law degree. He went on to complete a Masters of Law (Criminal Prosecutions) at the University of Wollongong in 2011 and is currently studying a Masters of Criminal Law at the University of New South Wales.
A renowned community leader, Deng is especially well known for his work as a criminal lawyer assisting the African community and others in Blacktown. He has become a formidable advocate fighting for his client’s rights in the areas of criminal, family, employment and international law. Deng has not only worked at three outstanding Sydney law firms but has also demonstrated a remarkable commitment to social justice. He is a Western Sydney University community award recipient and regularly acts as a spokesperson for the Sudanese community, frequently appearing in the media to advocate for their interests.
Deng is committed to making a positive difference and in doing so, devotes many hours of his personal time every week to activities such as mentoring, advising and supporting members of his community.
Emeritus Professor Gillian Triggs is the President of the Australian Human Rights Commission, with a five year appointment. She was Dean of the Faculty of Law and Challis Professor of International Law at the University of Sydney from 2007-12 and Director of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law from 2005-7. She is a former Barrister and a former Governor of the College of Law.
Professor Triggs has combined an academic career with international commercial legal practice and has advised the Australian and other governments and international organisations on international legal and trade disputes. Her focus at the Commission is on the implementation in Australian law of the human rights treaties to which Australia is a party, and to work with nations in the Asia Pacific region on practical approaches to human rights.
Professor Triggs' is the author of many books and papers on international law, including International Law, Contemporary Principles and Practices (2nd Ed, 2011).
