AI and agents were also responsible for driving 17% of global orders through personalized recommendations, targeted promotions, and smarter customer service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Retailers using AI-powered agents during this time frame also doubled customer service engagement, addressing complex cases faster as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/ai-customer-research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">30%<\/a> of consumers prefer agents for speedier service.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Agents have the potential to transform the holiday season by helping This points to an opportunity for retailers to capitalize on shoppers\u2019 excitement and drive more conversions with discounts and agentic customer service experiences.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the Salesforce Shopping Index\u2019s early holiday findings, captured between Oct. 1 and Nov. 14, showed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Global sales are growing: <\/strong>Global online sales dipped 1% year-over-year (YoY) during the last seven weeks, but rose 8% YoY in the first week of November, suggesting that consumer interest in holiday shopping is picking up pace.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Highest-growing sales categories:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Makeup (+10% YoY)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Active Footwear (+9% YoY)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>General Handbags and Luggage (+8% YoY)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Consumers are interested in AI agents for faster customer service:<\/strong> Since early October, retailers who have invested in AI-powered service agents have seen double the rate of customer service engagement compared to those who have not invested in AI-powered agents.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This growth is an early indicator that agents can take on a higher and more complex case load and adequately serve customer needs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Customers, meantime, seem open to engaging with agents. A full <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/ai-customer-research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">30% of consumers<\/a> said they would work with an AI agent if it meant faster service.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>AI and agents augment the shopping experience: <\/strong>While a relatively new technology, major retailers are already employing AI agents to help improve shopping experiences, including:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Brands like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/customer-stories\/saks\/?d=cta-body-promo-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Saks<\/a> are using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/form\/agentforce\/demo\/?d=7013y0000020HCRAA2&amp;nc=7013y0000020IVKAA2&amp;utm_content=7013y0000020HCRAA2&amp;utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=paid_search&amp;utm_campaign=21746031327&amp;utm_adgroup=167932510533&amp;utm_term=agentforce&amp;utm_matchtype=e&amp;gad_source=1&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQiAi_G5BhDXARIsAN5SX7r8XPosuW8Pn2VrYB8FanxSlWnnrOqvr4hn-RzxSjLQeo_1oZcHHUQaAiZJEALw_wcB&amp;gclsrc=aw.ds\/?d=cta-body-promo-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Agentforce<\/a> to streamline routine tasks such as order tracking, enabling customer service teams to focus on delivering a highly customized shopping experience that drives conversion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/ai-customer-research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nearly one-fifth (24%)<\/a> of consumers also said they&#8217;re already comfortable with AI agents shopping for them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Discounts and consumer demand are ramping up: <\/strong>Discounts peaked at an average rate of 20% in the first week of November \u2013 a 17% YoY increase, indicating that retailers are gearing up for a competitive holiday season.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Online orders have also seen a 4% YoY increase, signaling a positive shift following a year of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/blog\/shopping-index-retail-data\/?d=cta-body-promo-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reduced consumer spending<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Chinese shopping marketplaces entice consumers with low prices: <\/strong>Sixty-seven percent of buyers who use apps like Shein, Temu, and TikTok Shop reported that they are planning to make holiday purchases on them this season.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The top marketplace option for shoppers is Temu, with 40% of global consumers saying they\u2019ve made between two and five purchases on this marketplace in the last year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Returns present a challenge and opportunity for retailers:<\/strong> Returns in October and November were 33% higher than the same time frame last year, forcing retailers to take a closer look at their retention strategies and return policies to avoid losses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Salesforce perspective:<\/strong> \u201cWhile there was a slow start to shopping in October, November is kicking off with enthusiasm. With nearly half of shoppers waiting to make purchases during Cyber Week and nearly a quarter of all holiday sales expected to take place over these seven days, this is the time for retailers to pull
