Already, 87% of Australian organisations report that most or all teams and functions have adopted AI agents.* However, Australian IT leaders face looming orchestration and governance challenges: 50% of agents currently operate in isolated silos versus part of a multi-agent system, resulting in disconnected workflows, redundant automations, and the potential risk of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cio.com\/article\/2150142\/10-ways-to-prevent-shadow-ai-disaster.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shadow AI<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To address these issues, the research also uncovered that respondents are turning to API-driven architectures as a unified foundation to connect, orchestrate, and govern multi-agents and drive AI success.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-key-findings-from-salesforce-s-11th-annual-connectivity-benchmark-report\"><strong>Key Findings from Salesforce&#8217;s 11th Annual Connectivity Benchmark Report:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-road-to-multi-agents\"><strong>The Road to Multi-Agents<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>As adoption hits critical mass, AI agents are no longer experimental \u2014 they are becoming the primary driver of enterprise productivity. Australian IT leaders are focused on using diverse agentic solutions and establishing agent communication protocols to manage their fleet of agents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>High expectations: <\/strong>99% of IT leaders say agents already have improved or that they expect them to improve employee experiences, and 94% believe they will free developers to focus on higher-value work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Diverse development:<\/strong> On average, organisations report that their existing AI agents were developed through various methods, split across:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Prebuilt SaaS agents (35%)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Embedded agents within enterprise platforms (33%)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Custom-built in-house orchestration and governance gap is emerging as enterprises race to deploy AI agents everywhere. While adoption is high, the infrastructure supporting it needs to be more integrated to support a multi-agent workforce that can collaborate and securely leverage data from across the enterprise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>App and agent sprawl: <\/strong>The number of apps in Australian enterprises grew from 974 to 1,081 year-over-year with only 22% of them integrated together. With integration challenges and agent silos, 96% of IT leaders are concerned that agents will introduce more complexity than value.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Top hurdles: <\/strong>The primary challenges currently hamper agentic transformation:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Lack of internal expertise in AI\/agent design (45%)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Risk management, compliance\/security and\/or legal implications (44%)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Limited trust in autonomous decision making (40%)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Legacy infrastructure or system incompatibility (34%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Data barriers:<\/strong> 98% of organisations experience barriers to using data for AI use cases, with 43% identifying outdated IT architecture\/infrastructure due to data silos\/disconnected systems as a top blocker.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Rise of shadow AI:<\/strong> More than half (51%) of organisations cite cross-application data governance as a top integration challenge. API-driven, where APIs are fundamental building blocks for connecting applications, data, and AI across an enterprise.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Accelerating integration: <\/strong>More than a quarter
