In fact, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/capabilities\/mckinsey-digital\/our-insights\/the-economic-potential-of-generative-ai-the-next-productivity-frontier#key-insights\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">generative AI may inject over $4 trilion annually into the world\u2019s economy<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/generative-ai-research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">While 67% of senior IT leaders prioritize generative AI for their businesses \u2014 with more than 30% naming it as their key consideration<\/a> \u2014 a lack of trust among their customers may pose a challenge. According to recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/customer-engagement-research-2023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">data<\/a>, nearly 75% of consumers remain skeptical of AI-generated content\u2019s accuracy and trustworthiness. Similarly, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/generative-ai-skills-research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">more than 60%<\/a> of skilled professionals believe they lack the necessary skills to effectively and safely use AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Building trustworthy generative AI requires a firm foundation at the inception of AI development. Earlier this year, Salesforce published an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/generative-ai-guidelines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">overview<\/a> of our five guidelines for the ethical development of generative AI that builds on our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforceairesearch.com\/trusted-ai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trusted AI Principles<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/ai-acceptable-use-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AI Acceptable Use Policy<\/a>. The guidelines focus on accuracy, safety, transparency, empowerment, and sustainability \u2014 helping Salesforce AI engineers create ethical generative AI right from the start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-powering-generative-ai-model-accuracy\"><strong>Powering generative AI model accuracy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Salesforce customers use generative AI models to handle tasks ranging from automating sales processes to delivering personalizing customer service interactions to creating customized buyer and merchant experiences \u2014 and that\u2019s just the tip of the iceberg. Consequently, highly accurate model responses typically result in enhanced communications and improved customer experiences. To validate model accuracy, Salesforce uses the dual approach of grounding output in customer data points with continuous iterative improvement through customer input.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dynamic grounding \u2014 the process of restricting the generative AI model to use factual, up-to-date data instead of older datasets \u2014 remains key for delivering highly relevant and accurate output. For example, by grounding a generative AI model with a particular customer\u2019s data \u2014 such as their knowledge articles about service queries \u2014 the answers being generated are accurate and come from a trusted source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Customer feedback also helps validate model accuracy. Oftentimes, Salesforce customers provide explicit qualitative and quantitative feedback on how they use or alter their AI outputs, which helps refine our product design and improve the end This helps us detect and correct bias-related issues prior to market launch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tackling bias in generative AI remains a more complex problem, requiring new evaluation methods such as <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@arpitnarain\/unmasking-bias-assessing-fairness-in-large-language-models-a722624e4483\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">adversarial testing<\/a>. With adversarial testing, our team works to intentionally push generative AI models\u2019 and applications\u2019 boundaries to understand where the system may be weak or susceptible to bias, toxicity, or inaccuracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adversarial testing introduces of adversarial inputs to an AI model and helps it to recognize and reject those inputs so that models do not produce toxic, biased, unsafe, or inaccurate outputs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-driving-transparency-in-generative-ai-development-and-deployment\"><strong>Driving transparency in generative AI development and deployment<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Salesforce prioritizes transparency throughout the development and deployment of our generative AI systems. This includes providing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Disclaimers<\/strong>. Clarifying systems, such as popups, help set expectations \u2014 advising customers that generative AI continues to be an evolving technology.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Documentation<\/strong>. Product documentation provide a wealth of information to customers. We currently have model cards for our predictive AI, sharing key information such as the purpose behind particular AI models, how Salesforce trains AI models, and any potential risks associated with using AI.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/ai-acceptable-use-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Responsible usage guidance<\/a><\/strong>. When using model builders, customers are notified when the system receives biased inputs \u2014 such as a zip code that could be correlated with race \u2014 preserving transparency in AI interactions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-using-generative-ai-to-empower-employees-and-users-with-limited-ai-experience\"><strong>Using generative AI to empower employees and users with limited AI experience<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Salesforce\u2019s generative AI is designed to support customers with augmentation and empowerment, helping people elevate their productivity and skill sets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For instance, a Service Cloud customer recently piloted Salesforce\u2019s new generative AI <a href=\"https:\/\/help.salesforce.com\/s\/articleView?id=sf.reply_recs_generative_ai_enable.htm&amp;type=5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Einstein Service Replies<\/a> product. It gave service reps a new tool to rapidly resolve issues that could otherwise be very time-consuming. It ended up being so effective that the reps were able to expand their horizons and explore new opportunities, using the tool to upsell and cross-sell new services for their customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Salesforce also ensures its AI technology remains user-friendly and inclusive \u2014 offering no-code and low-code products that democratize access to AI for people with various levels of expertise.
