Hailing from the "land down under" (Sydney, Australia to be specific), we are thrilled to announce the newest Salesforce Woman of the Month, Andrea Chin!

 

A Salesforce Senior Client Partner, Andrea’s got a go-getter mentality and a challenge-seeking attitude that has put her firmly in the driver’s seat of her own career. Even when moving full-speed ahead, she remains open-minded and flexible to whatever changes come her way. Pretty impressive, right? Those are just a few reasons why she was nominated and awarded the June Salesforce Woman of the Month.

 

To celebrate this great honor, we thought we'd ask her tried-and-true — and timeless — tips for thriving in any role. Here's what she had to say:

 

1. Take on New Challenges

Trust your gut and don't be afraid to take on a challenge — even if you don't feel ready! All too often we second-guess ourselves and, as a result, let opportunities slip away. Avoid the tendency to simply follow in someone else's footsteps; learn from what they've done and then blaze your own trail.

One piece of advice I love — and a shout to Xavier Zang, Vice President of the Mergers and Acquisitions in the Customer Success Group at Salesforce — is that "yes" is a great answer, "no" is a good answer, and "maybe" will kill you. It really resonates, whether you're working with customers or managing your own personal career decisions. (Thanks, Xavier!)

 

2. Build Relationships by Listening

My grandparents would have been happy to know I shared this. They always told me: “You were born with two ears and one mouth, so listen twice as much as you speak.” This advice has served me well in my role as a Senior Client Partner because our customers will always know their business better than we ever will. When you listen with purpose, you can build authentic and trusting relationships much more quickly. Plus, you're better able to put yourself in the shoes of your customers and figure out ways to make them look like rockstars!

 

3. Embrace Personal Growth

Listen to others but also to yourself. And take a moment to reflect upon how you navigate challenging situations. Doing so will help you better understand your own tendencies. If a certain task or conversation makes you uncomfortable, don't be afraid to dig a little deeper to learn why — and then identify any opportunities to grow from it. I use the same amount of transparency when managing my own team. I've found that it nurtures a culture of trust and feedback that allows you to form stronger relationships and positively seize coaching opportunities.

 

4. Embody Our Ohana Values

Be curious and get involved. I feel fortunate to be at a company that encourages us to extend the Ohana spirit of our family to others. I’m passionate about my volunteer work with TechGirls Are Superheroes, a program that both gives school-age girls access to technology to build STEM skills and runs a nation-wide contest to build leadership skills. I’m also thrilled to be involved in Salesforce’s employee group, Outforce, which brings together employees who are allies of equality in sexual orientation and gender identity because we each have a role to play in promoting equality and inclusion.
