Get the ebook.\"><\/img><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Build Your Reputation in the Community<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.charities.org\/facts-statistics-workplace-giving-matching-gifts-and-volunteer-programs\">Sixty-five per cent of Fortune 500 companies<\/a> offer gift-matching programs, representing serious funding opportunities for the nonprofit sector. Donations of money, skill, and time are all appreciated by nonprofits, and charities often show their thanks by publicly praising generous companies.<\/p>\n<p>Many consumers consider corporate responsibility when making a purchase: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/jose-costa\/3-reasons-why-your-company-should-be-giving-back_b_8777080.html\">90 per cent<\/a> would consider switching to your competitors in order to support a cause. Take advantage of your customers\u2019 generous nature, and you could make it to the top of your customers\u2019 favorite brands as well.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a good chance your employees (and potential employees) will notice, too. That\u2019s particularly true for millennials, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.themillennialimpact.com\/research\/\">53 per cent<\/a> of whom say having their passions and talents recognized is a great reason to stay at their current company.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2023\/10\/charitable-work-001.jpg?strip=all&#038;quality=95\"><\/img><\/p>\n<h3>Improve the Community<\/h3>\n<p>Companies that focus their donations on communities close to home can garner added benefits, as Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook discovered. Plans to move its headquarters in the San Francisco Bay Area alarmed California residents, so Facebook made the decision to donate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/article\/241983\">millions to improve local schools and infrastructure<\/a> to ease tensions. And now, Facebook employees and other residents get to enjoy beautiful, new, company-funded bike paths on their way to work, plus cutting-edge schools for their children.<\/p>\n<p>A lack of employee engagement <a href=\"http:\/\/www.inc.com\/magazine\/201412\/paul-keegan\/the-new-rules-of-engagement.html\">costs companies<\/a> hundreds of billions of dollars a year. Perks, like those that resulted from Facebook\u2019s donation to improve its community, can help improve employee happiness, and therefore engagement. And guess what? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.charities.org\/snapshot2015\">Workplace giving<\/a> is the most common component of employee engagement.<\/p>\n<h3>Build Connections and Networks<\/h3>\n<p>Networking: It\u2019s how business is done. The hard part about networking is \u201crunning into\u201d the right people with a valid excuse to strike up a conversation. Charity can help with that, too. If you\u2019ve ever been to a charity event, you know that some of the business world\u2019s elite can be found in the chair next to you or at a table across the room.<\/p>\n<p>When choosing a cause, try to focus on those that speak directly to your customers or align with your business values. That\u2019s what Maaco and Mienike did when they hosted the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/MaacoUSA\/app\/884577611628115\/\">Cars and Stripes<\/a> event.<\/p>\n<h3>Great Training Opportunity<\/h3>\n<p>Most CEOs would agree that properly training employees is key to a company\u2019s success, but finding the resources to do so can be challenging. Costs include trainee wages, hiring trainers, and covering gaps in the schedule while employees are busy training. Corporate spending on training and employee development can reach <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/joshbersin\/2014\/02\/04\/the-recovery-arrives-corporate-training-spend-skyrockets\/#181863a64ab7\">$130 billion<\/a> worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>What if you could write off a big chunk of those training expenses? According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.deloitte.com\/us\/en\/pages\/about-deloitte\/articles\/citizenship-deloitte-volunteer-impact-research.html\">Deloitte study<\/a>, that\u2019s exactly what many companies are doing. They\u2019re sending their employees out to practice skills and learn new ones while volunteering at nonprofits. Not only will you save a bundle on hiring trainers, but you\u2019ll also get to write off the hours that employees spend volunteering.<\/p>\n<h3>Personal Benefits<\/h3>\n<p>According to a study by UnitedHealth Group, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unitedhealthgroup.com\/~\/media\/UHG\/PDF\/2013\/UNH-Health-Volunteering-Study.ashx\">people who volunteer<\/a> feel better emotionally, physically, and mentally. Doesn\u2019t a happier, healthier, less-stressed workforce sound like a worthwhile goal?
