Salesforce.com Foundation contributes $100,000 to projects in Tibet in past

NEW YORK, NY — February 22, 2002 — Tonight the salesforce.com/foundation will ring in the Tibetan New Year at this 12th Annual Tibet House Benefit Concert in Carnegie Hall. Superstars, David Bowie, Philip Glass and Bebel Gilberto will perform following dinner and cocktails hosted by Marc Benioff, Chairman, CEO and Founder of salesforce.com.

Benioff's mission of fostering his business and philanthropic initiatives has proven successful since inception of the salesforce.com/foundation in 1999. In the past two years, salesforce.com/foundation has given over $100,000 to the Tibet Fund and other projects aiming to empower the Tibetan people through the use of technology for education and communication. Benioff sits on the Tibet House Board, and is pleased to support its work through his second annual benefit concert sponsorship.

In 2000, the salesforce.com/foundation made great leaps in helping Tibetan refugee communities by partnering with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Department of Education, and the Tibet Fund to launch the Tibetan School Technology Project. The project is educating hundreds of Tibetan youth by installing computer centers in schools and training teachers in basic technology skills, software programs, and curriculum integration.

To date, 8 schools in Northern India and Nepal have been installed with over 100 computers, and training has been provided to teachers. A subsequent project with the Tibet Fund, which will provide e-mail access to all 30+ Tibetan Refugee Settlements was launched in 2001.
