Salesforce Announces Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications Developed Big Data Solution for Road Inspections on Salesforce1 Platform

Innovative solution captures big data on road surface conditions from mobile devices

TOKYO—December 4, 2014—Salesforce [NYSE:CRM], the Customer Success Platform and world’s #1 CRM company, today announced that Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has developed a Big Data solution for conducting road inspections using the Salesforce1 Platform.

The Ministry’s Big Data solution captures information on road surface conditions from mobile sensors attached to moving vehicles, including buses, taxis and other public transportation vehicles. The Ministry will use the data to determine the need for road repairs. Road inspections will be conducted through the end of March 2015 in Chiba City and Toyonaka, Osaka. The Ministry selected the Salesforce1 Platform for its ability to develop mobile applications quickly.

The initiative is in keeping with the Ministry’s goal of making Japan a global leader in information technology innovation.
