Salesforce advocates for a more innovative, sustainable, and equitable world.

We are guided by our core values of trust, innovation, customer success, equality, and sustainability. That's why we work with government officials and policy advocates around the world to listen, gain understanding and expertise, and inform decisions that serve our shareholders, customers, partners, employees, society, and our planet.

Public Policy Engagement

Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to improve the state of the world by augmenting human intelligence, amplifying human capabilities, and providing actionable insights. We believe the ethical and inclusive design, deployment, development, and use of technology is key in unlocking the full potential of AI. The benefits of AI should be accessible to everyone, and it should be safe and inclusive for all. We believe global AI should be transparent, in alignment with existing data privacy laws, should be technologically feasible, and should acknowledge the many roles and responsibilities existing in the AI ecosystem.

Salesforce is deeply committed to the ethical and humane design and use of its technology, and our work on AI is founded on five principles: responsibility, accountability, transparency, empowerment, and inclusivity. We recognize the transformative power of the technologies we create and their role in being a force for good around the world. To achieve this vision we commit to working with governments, business leaders, civil society, the scientific community, academics, and citizens to draw upon the expertise of recognized leaders and established frameworks to guide us as we work to ensure the ethical development and use of our products.

Salesforce representatives participate in various AI committees like the U.S. National AI Advisory Committee, National Institute of Standards and Technology, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s AI Commission, and more. We are also members of the World Economic Forum’s Responsible Use of Technology Steering Committee and other global committees putting accessibility and ethics at the center of AI design and implementation.

Salesforce recognizes privacy as a fundamental human right and business imperative. Salesforce supports and will continue to advocate for privacy regulations that protect people while also encouraging innovation. Global privacy laws should be transparent, provide clear definitions and standards, be technologically feasible, and have an enforcement mechanism. Ultimately, privacy is about trust. Building trust means our technologies must help our customers handle personal data responsibly, not use it for unexpected purposes, and respect individuals’ preferences.

To provide our stakeholders with information regarding our commitment to privacy, we created a dedicated site for privacy information around the globe and our transparency report. From here, you can use our Trailhead platform to learn more about privacy regulations in individual regions.

Today’s business leaders, consumers, and citizens expect a seamless experience when they enter new markets. Research shows that more predictable and open data transfer policies correlate to stimulated economies, increased competitiveness, and new opportunities. We advocate for accessible and interoperable policies to optimize global data transfers while maintaining the highest levels of privacy and security. With Hyperforce, we provide our customers the ability to store data anywhere while achieving compliance with in-region standards for cloud services. As an example, you can learn more here about our Hyperforce EU Operating Zone.

Trust is the bedrock of our company. It is written in the DNA of our culture, technology, and focus on customer success. Salesforce builds security into everything we do so businesses can focus on growth and innovation. Nothing is more important to us than protecting our customers’ data, and we advocate for policies that strengthen our ability to accomplish that mission. We regularly collaborate with industry leaders to promote security best practices, bring together CISOs across various industries, and develop guidelines to address the evolving landscape. Further, we also look to advocate and work with governments to establish cyber rules that are responsive to the evolving landscape.

Knowing how important it is to work with global policymakers and thought leaders, we are a founding member of the World Economic Forum’s Centre for Cybersecurity. Nothing is more important to us than protecting our customers’ data, and we advocate for policies that strengthen our ability to accomplish that mission. Salesforce’s business is built on global, seamless movement of data. As our customers around the world migrate to the cloud — whether governments or businesses — they need predictable global rules to foster the ability to operate in markets around the world. Salesforce supports free trade agreements (FTAs), which promote existing regulatory norms on issues such as prohibition of blanket data localization laws, IP protections, and financial services data. The digital economy is global, and public cloud services depend on the ability to operate in economies that have made a commitment to the cultivation of a healthy environment underpinned by strong regulatory norms.
