As an administrator, you may be tasked with extending Salesforce beyond point-and-click options. In order to perform basic programmatic customizations of Salesforce apps, you need a strong foundation in object-oriented programming. In this course, you will learn the fundamentals of implementing business logic using Apex, the object-oriented programming language of the Salesforce Platform. First, you’ll learn how to read Apex code. Then, you’ll gradually increase your programming skills from writing single debugging statements to programming multiple, multiline blocks of code.

As a programmer with experience writing in object-oriented programming languages, you may be called upon to customize Salesforce applications using Apex, Visualforce, and JavaScript. In this course, you will learn how to customize your Salesforce applications using programming languages supported by the Salesforce Platform. You will get hands-on experience building data objects and writing Apex code to retrieve, manipulate, and store the data associated with those objects. You will write custom logic using Apex triggers and classes, and test that logic using the built-in testing framework. You will explore how Apex code interacts with declarative customizations on the platform, and the nuances of working on a multitenant platform. You will then examine common techniques for designing solutions in Apex. These activities will culminate in an exercise building a complex trigger that takes advantage of the declarative aspects of the platform. Finally, you will review techniques for customizing user interfaces using Visualforce and Lightning components. Note: if you are new to programming, we recommend Coding for Admins instead.

As a programmer, you may need to manage and develop apps across their entire life cycle. In this course, you’ll learn how to develop and manage applications using Salesforce DX and Heroku. You will get hands-on experience working with Salesforce DX constructs, including Salesforce DX projects, scratch orgs, and developer-controlled packages. Using Git as a source control tool, you will learn how to push and pull from sandboxes. You will also create a developer-controlled package and implement continuous integration using Salesforce DX. Finally, you will explore using Heroku for app deployment, integration with Salesforce apps, continuous integration (using Salesforce DX), and continuous delivery.
