As an ambassador for ICT, she toured schools hoping to inspire youngsters to become part of the digital world. But she hit a problem: digital was perceived as being difficult and nerdy. \u201cThat\u2019s when I discovered CoderDojo in Ireland, and they had one rule and that\u2019s being cool.\u201d Tempels was so inspired by the nonprofit\u2019s work that she went on to found a Belgian group, which she now chairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/uk\/customer-success-stories\/coderdojo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CoderDojo<\/a> provides young people with informal learning environments where they can creatively explore technology. In Belgium, it now reaches around 18,000 children and is supported by 2,000 volunteers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Engaging with nonprofits is essential for responsible leadership<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Tempels\u2019 work with CoderDojo and Telenet taught her a lot about the importance of responsible leadership and collaboration between businesses and nonprofits. \u201cYou discover what engagement really means,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd the power of engagement is something we sometimes miss in corporate life.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By collaborating with nonprofits, businesses and their teams can find a greater sense of purpose by supporting local communities. \u201cIt\u2019s an opportunity for your employees to do something for society. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-quote-article\" style=\"\"><div class=\"wp-block-quote-social-wrapper\"><figure class=\"wp-block-quote-article-quote\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>We must do more to address the big social problems, such as poverty, health, and education. Over a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercer.com\/our-thinking\/career\/global-talent-hr-trends.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">third of employees<\/a> favour businesses that focus on social equity and environmental protection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople are looking to work for a company that has a purpose, a clear mission. And that means responsible leaders need to reach new audiences. \u201cWe believe there is an abundance of hidden talent in every community,\u201d said Nieuwenhuis. \u201cAs employers, we need to reach out and go into local neighbourhoods to find the talent.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He recommends looking at people\u2019s practical talents and abilities rather than just the qualifications on their CVs when recruiting new team members &#8211; especially for roles within IT. \u201cEvery person has some soft and hard skills that connect with the different roles in IT,\u201d said Nieuwenhuis. \u201cWe have now over 60 partners working together to bring hidden talent into the labour market.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Responsible leadership also means facilitating greater inclusion and diversity. This will not only help businesses attract new talent but also boost their competitive advantage. Nearly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/business\/talent\/blog\/talent-strategy\/future-of-recruiting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">80% of talent professionals<\/a> say that diversity will be very important to the future of recruiting. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-quote-article\" style=\"\"><div class=\"wp-block-quote-social-wrapper\"><figure class=\"wp-block-quote-article-quote\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>We need more diversity in our software and hardware teams to make products work for everyone.
