As online giving continues to grow in the United States and around the globe, we set out to uncover how organizations are engaging donors online. To conduct this research, we became mystery online donors or secret shoppers to 630 organizations across 9 countries and uncovered extremely valuable and often ignored pieces of information that could be crucial in an organization’s giving strategy. For example, 20% of the time, the mystery donor was not able to complete a donation at all - “After inputting my information to sign up, the page was stuck at loading” or “It keeps saying that something went wrong” - describe some of the issues they encountered.
