{"id":8566,"date":"2020-05-26T07:28:00","date_gmt":"2023-06-06T07:28:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/?p=8566"},"modified":"2023-07-18T09:10:45","modified_gmt":"2023-07-18T09:10:45","slug":"coming-together-in-times-of-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/in\/blog\/coming-together-in-times-of-crisis\/","title":{"rendered":"How NIIT Foundation is Helps Underprivileged Families Across India Eat Everyday"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>When COVID-19 struck, our students at NIIT Foundation reached out for support. These students come from underprivileged families, reside in villages and areas with substandard housing, and their parents are mostly daily wage workers. Left without a source of income, a few requested cash, while others needed essentials such as groceries and medical supplies. We did everything we could to provide for them, but we knew there was a lot more we had to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, social distancing is the only way an individual can limit the spread of COVID-19, but not every family can afford to stay at home and stay safe. We knew that the need of the hour was a proactive, large-scale humanitarian effort to provide help where it is most needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\" id=\"h-coming-together-to-help\"><b>Coming together to help<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At NIIT Foundation, we wanted to take a focused approach to help those impacted due to COVID-19. We launched the \u201c<i>Zindagi Ke Saath<\/i>\u201d programme to find more relevant ways to do good in these times of crisis; going far beyond our regular mandate of positively impacting the lives of the underserved through training and education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We wanted to create the maximum impact in the shortest amount of time. With 150 centres across India, nearly 200 partner centres, and direct access to over 10,000 families, we felt that tapping into our existing student databases would be the best place to start. We set up volunteering teams across 20+ Indian cities, comprising our employees and our student \u2018Changemakers\u2019. These \u2018Changemakers\u2019 have been formally trained to undertake philanthropic work, and during the current crisis, they have truly risen to the occasion!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\" id=\"h-creating-and-executing-impactful-programmes\"><b>Creating and executing impactful programmes<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Our first initiative involves giving families cash in hand. We conducted a study to understand how much money a family needs to survive, and created two models:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>INR 2000 model to provide cash to families, allowing them to sustain for a month<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>INR 1500 to spread awareness about healthy practices, and providing health-related supplies, enabling the families to stay home and stay safe. Under this, we have so far distributed 10,000 masks to families in the Delhi NCR area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Our second initiative focuses on providing meals to those in need through special schools. We provide cooked meals to visually impaired and physically challenged students through our partner schools. We have reached thousands of students across five schools in Delhi NCR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\" id=\"h-scaling-up-efforts-with-the-salesforce-ohana\"><b>Scaling up efforts with the Salesforce ohana<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We were able to considerably step up our humanitarian efforts when we got in touch with Salesforce, our CRM partner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Marc Benioff founded Salesforce in 1999, he made the concept of &#8216;ohana&#8217; the core of Salesforce culture. In Hawaiian culture, ohana represents the idea that families are bound together, and that family members are responsible for one another. The <a href=\"https:\/\/trailhead.salesforce.com\/en\/content\/learn\/modules\/manage_the_sfdc_way_ohana\/msfw_ohana_explor_vals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Salesforce ohana<\/a> is a deep-rooted support system, and does not stop at employees only &#8211; the Salesforce ohana includes their partners, customers and communities at large.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NIIT Foundation has been a Salesforce customer for a while now. Currently, we manage student registration, courseware delivery and assessment data on Salesforce platforms. And we plan to further use the platform for managing all data related to certification, assessment, fee collection, daily attendance, and candidate placements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But beyond this business relationship, Salesforce has always inspired us with their commitment towards doing good. We knew philanthropy is built into the Salesforce DNA, but we did not anticipate such high levels of participation and proactiveness from them. We reached out to our Salesforce Account Manager to brainstorm how we could amplify our efforts. Within no time, our initiatives were being shared with all members of the Salesforce ohana. Various stakeholders came forward to help in any capacity possible. They donated time and money and spread the word. With the support of Salesforce employees, we have been able to feed 270 families, and Salesforce will be matching those individual donations. We are truly a part of the Salesforce ohana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, we are doubly excited to make the most of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/in\/solutions\/covid-19-response\/overview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Salesforce Care solutions<\/a>, especially Quip and Social Studio, that are freely available during the COVID-19 crisis. We believe it will help further streamline our efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\" id=\"h-continuing-our-community-efforts\"><b>Continuing our community efforts<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>What this crisis has highlighted to us is that there are so many ways each of us, as individuals, can contribute to our communities. We can make donations to not-for-profits providing relief during the crisis, especially to migrant labourers and at-risk families. We can volunteer with organisations providing critical service. And we can stay at home to stay safe and contain the spread of this pandemic.
