If you’re a Salesforce admin:

To turn on Chatter for your whole company, you can manually add Chatter users or enable Chatter invitations.

1. Manually create Chatter users

  • Click your name > Setup > Manage users > Users.
  • Click New User.
  • Enter the user’s first name, last name, and email address. The email address becomes the username.
  • Select the Chatter user license and the Chatter User Profile.
  • To set a user’s initial password, click Generate New Password and notify user immediately, and the system will email the login name and password to the new user.
  • Click Save.

2. Enabling Chatter Invites

Here’s a short tutorial on how to enable invitations for your company.

  • Click your name > Setup > Customize > Chatter > Settings
  • Click Edit
  • Select Allow Invitations
  • Enter email domains to define who can join Chatter for your organization. The domains you enter should include those used in email addresses for your company, such as

If you’re a Salesforce user:

Great. You’ve already got Salesforce, which means you’ve already got Chatter. Once your admin enables invitations, it’s easy to invite coworkers to join Chatter Free. Here’s how you can send invites to your colleagues in just two steps.*

  • Navigate to the People tab and click Invite People to Chatter.
  • Enter the email address of colleagues you’d like to invite** and hit Send.

**Note: You can only enter email addresses for your company’s supported domains.

Chatter Free users can view profiles, share files, join groups, and post updates, but can’t see your data or records.

Remember: Only people with a verified company email address can join your company network.

Public email domains such as,, or are not accepted for the free trial.
