In creating the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.org\/about\/pledge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1-1-1 model<\/a>, way back in 1999, Salesforce committed to leveraging its technology, its people, and its philanthropy to operationalize giving.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We don\u2019t have to choose between doing well and doing good. Values create value.  <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/4AQzBYS6hd\">https:\/\/t.co\/4AQzBYS6hd<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Marc Benioff (@Benioff) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Benioff\/status\/1183720996173471744?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 14, 2019<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For 20 years, Salesforce has attended the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/events\/world-economic-forum-annual-meeting-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">World Economic Forum Annual Meeting<\/a> in Davos to carry that vision forward, joining multi-stakeholder dialogues that address today\u2019s most pressing challenges.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While at the event, Salesforce <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/salesforce-carbon-removal-commitment-first-movers-coalition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a> plans to purchase $100 million of durable carbon credits from technologies that remove carbon from the air at scale, as part of its participation in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/first-movers-coalition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">First Movers Coalition<\/a>. It also hosted a guided walking tour with nonprofit organization <a href=\"https:\/\/arcticbasecamp.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Arctic Basecamp<\/a>, connecting WEF attendees with Davos youth to discuss climate action and air quality as part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.org\/blog\/youth-climate-justice-davos-codes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Davos Codes<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"contextual-driver has-text-align-left contextual-driver--evergreen\">\n\t<header class=\"tidbit-header\">\n\t\t<h2 class=\"tidbit-head\">\n\t\t\tWhat is Davos Codes?  \t\t<\/h2>\n\t<\/header>\n\t<div class=\"tidbit-body\">\n\t\t<p>Davos Codes is a year-round program, designed to engage youth in Davos through a series of STEM classes and workshops that promote the UN\u2019s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Conversation highlights include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-new-environmental-capitalism\"><strong>A new \u2018environmental capitalism\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Of the roughly 270 panels at Davos, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/davo-by-train-jet-set-climate-change-df8df30a199877cbcf1cd8681172c1af\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">one-third were about climate change or its direct effects<\/a>. The world\u2019s top climate scientists have <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/climate-united-nations-paris-europe-berlin-802ae4475c9047fb6d82ac88b37a690e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">warned<\/a> that to avoid the most devastating impacts of climate change, the world must significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions <em>this decade<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On stage in the \u2018Safeguarding our Planet and People\u2019 session, John Kerry, the United States\u2019 first Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, called on the agility of the private sector to help fuel the shift society needs: &#8220;No government will move fast enough to solve this crisis by itself. We need the private sector all around the world to step up.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-watch-now-safeguarding-our-planet-and-people\">Watch now: Safeguarding our Planet and People<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video controls poster=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/in\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2023\/12\/Screen-Shot-2022-05-25-at-11.58.31-AM.png\" src=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/bxp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2022\/05\/Safeguarding-our-Planet-People.mp4\"><\/video><figcaption><em>Salesforce Chair and Co-CEO Marc Benioff joins Elizabeth Wathuti, Xie Zhenhua, John F. Kerry, Geraldine Matchett, and B\u00f8rge Brende<\/em> <em>for a conversation about what innovations are needed to build a more secure and resilient planet<\/em>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Salesforce Chair and Co-CEO Marc Benioff, who joined the session, added that the private sector can play a pivotal role in addressing climate change. Said Benioff, \u201cI\u2019m ready for a new environmental capitalism. Every company here at the Forum should be net zero and fully renewable.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Benioff also commented on Salesforce\u2019s own commitments: \u201cIt&#8217;s very meaningful to me that we&#8217;re net zero as a company, and that we&#8217;re fully renewable <em>now<\/em>. It\u2019s not some future commitment that we&#8217;re making. The planet is a key stakeholder <em>today<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Benioff mentioned, Salesforce has achieved <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/press-releases\/2021\/09\/21\/salesforce-achieves-net-zero-across-its-full-value-chain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">net zero residual emissions<\/a> as of September 2021, and 100% renewable energy for global operations by procuring renewable energy equivalent to its electric energy usage. To help other companies transition to net zero, Salesforce built Net Zero Cloud to help organizations like <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.accenture.com\/news\/accenture-and-salesforce-team-up-with-mastercard-to-deepen-its-sustainability-efforts.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mastercard<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/salesforce-and-jetblue-build-on-partnership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JetBlue<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/telus-taps-salesforce-net-zero-cloud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TELUS<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/deloitte-germany-cuts-down-on-consultant-travel-emissions-using-salesforce-net-zero-cloud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Deloitte Germany<\/a> accelerate their sustainability journeys.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Suzanne DiBianca, Salesforce\u2019s Chief Impact Officer, also called out Salesforce\u2019s work to create a common set of standards among companies tracking their carbon. \u201cWe set up something called the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/salesforce-accelerates-commitment-to-trees-oceans-and-youth-programs-to-fight-climate-change\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Blue Carbon Buyers Alliance<\/a> so we can create a community amongst companies [and gain] a common language, common standards that we&#8217;re using in the absence of anything in the regulatory environment,\u201d she said. \u201cWe need to hold each other accountable and we have to be really transparent.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Rebuilding societal trust with key institutions&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.edelman.com\/trust\/2022-trust-barometer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">According to the 2022 Edelman Trust Barometer<\/a>, societal distrust is at an all-time high. Nearly 6 in 10 respondents say their default tendency is to distrust something until they see evidence it is trustworthy. Government, business, and civil society leaders must gain the faith of citizens, consumers, and communities at a time when social cohesion and multilateral agreements are crucial to global recovery.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Salesforce President and Chief Financial Officer Amy Weaver spoke on stage about how businesses can build trust with their customers and employees. Said Weaver, \u201cCustomers want to do business with companies that they trust and are transparent with them. Employees, especially with this \u2018Great Resignation\u2019 or \u2018Great Reshuffle,\u2019 have really never had more power. They want to work for companies that they trust and companies that they believe have their back.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Employees, especially with this \u2018Great Resignation\u2019 or \u2018Great Reshuffle,\u2019 have really never had more power. They want to work for companies that they trust and companies that they believe have their back.<\/p><cite>Amy Weaver, President and Chief Financial Officer, Salesforce<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Salesforce itself is committed to building trust with customers by ensuring products are designed ethically and responsibly. In 2018, Salesforce created the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/how-salesforce-is-building-a-culture-of-responsible-technology-and-why-it-matters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Office of Ethical and Humane Use<\/a> to ensure that Salesforce technology was used to help \u2014 not harm \u2014 society and uphold the basic human rights of every human being. Salesforce\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/blog\/what-is-ethics-by-design\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ethics by Design<\/a> model embeds ethics and inclusion into the product design and development process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The power of ecopreneurship and innovation to accelerate progress on SDGs<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ecopreneurs, or entrepreneurs focused on environmental or social challenges, offer massive potential to help curb the climate crisis, but have historically struggled to find funding to fuel their innovation.
