In fact, <a href=\"https:\/\/slack.com\/blog\/news\/new-slack-research-shows-accelerating-ai-use-at-work?_ga=2.2827888.1987421955.1709055929-1160324699.1696349147&amp;_gl=1*skz3ko*_ga*MTE2MDMyNDY5OS4xNjk2MzQ5MTQ3*_ga_3VHBZ2DJWP*MTcwOTA2Njk3OC4yMTMuMS4xNzA5MDY2OTc5LjAuMC4w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new research from Slack<\/a> finds that 80% of employees using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/what-is-generative-ai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">generative AI<\/a> tools are experiencing a boost in productivity \u2014 and that\u2019s just the beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And, with the introduction of AI assistants \u2014 including Salesforce\u2019s own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/press-releases\/2024\/02\/27\/einstein-copilot-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Einstein Copilot<\/a> \u2014 the potential for businesses is only growing. AI assistants can already answer questions, generate content, and dynamically automate actions. And someday, these assistants will become digital sales and service agents, anticipating our needs and operating on our behalf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But with each new AI advancement comes new ethical concerns. It\u2019s one thing if an AI assistant offers a bad product recommendation, but if it takes misguided actions on real-world concerns like personal finances or medical information \u2014 the stakes suddenly become much higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we enter this new era of human-AI interaction, how can we harness the power of AI without opening ourselves up to dangerous risks?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-keeping-a-human-at-the-helm\"><strong>Keeping a human at the helm<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The AI revolution is an evolution. We\u2019re taking quantum leaps forward every day, but we can\u2019t always explain why AI does the things that it does \u2014 or eliminate every instance of inaccuracy, toxicity, or misinformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>That\u2019s why, at Salesforce, we believe trusted AI needs a human at the helm.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>For these reasons, it\u2019s important that we keep humans firmly in control of AI systems. But as AI becomes more and more sophisticated, it can be hard to figure out how to layer in that human touch. We\u2019ve all heard of keeping <a href=\"https:\/\/hai.stanford.edu\/news\/humans-loop-design-interactive-ai-systems\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201chumans in the loop,\u201d<\/a> but with this new generation of AI, it\u2019s sometimes just not realistic for us to engage in every AI interaction or review every AI-generated output.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s why, at Salesforce, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/blog\/building-trust-in-ai-needs-a-human-touch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">we believe trusted AI needs a human at the helm<\/a>. Instead of asking humans to intervene in every individual AI interaction, we\u2019re designing more powerful, system-wide controls that put humans at the helm of AI outcomes and enable them to focus on the high-judgment items that most need their attention. In other words, humans aren\u2019t always rowing the boat \u2014 but we\u2019re very much steering the ship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And with a human at the helm, we can design AI systems that leverage the best of human and machine intelligence. For example, we can unlock incredible efficiencies by tasking AI to review and summarize millions of customer profiles. And at the same time, we can build trust by empowering humans to lean in and use their judgment in ways that AI can\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-making-ai-a-copilot-not-an-autopilot\"><strong>Making AI a copilot, not an autopilot<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s a reason this generation of AI products are called copilots and not autopilots. As AI becomes more powerful and autonomous \u2014 making decisions and taking actions on individuals\u2019 behalf \u2014 keeping a human at the helm becomes even more important. A single, human-generated prompt can help guide millions of trusted outputs \u2014 but only if it\u2019s constructed thoughtfully. With our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/press-releases\/2024\/03\/06\/einstein-1-studio-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">newly announced<\/a> Prompt Builder, we\u2019re helping customers craft effective prompts by seeing the likely output in near real time to help ensure they get the AI outcome they want. We\u2019ve also added different edit modes within Prompt Builder that allow users to tune and revise their prompts so they provide more helpful, accurate, and relevant results.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Audit Trails Help Us Spot What We\u2019ve Missed: <\/strong>Our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/products\/secure-ai\/?d=cta-body-promo-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Einstein Trust Layer<\/a> offers a robust audit trail that allows customers to assess AI\u2019s track record and pinpoint where their AI assistant may have gone wrong \u2014 but also where AI went right. These features help identify issues across large datasets that humans might not spot; and can empower us to use our judgment to make adjustments based on the needs of our organization. For example, Audit Trail can alert us when an AI tool\u2019s outputs are flagged as \u201cthumbs down\u201d a certain number of times \u2014 a sign that the AI-generated outputs might not be meeting the business\u2019 goals. And by aggregating implicit feedback signals, like how often users edit an output before using it, Audit Trail can give us a bird&#8217;s eye view of our systems, allowing us to identify trends and take action.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Data Controls Help Us Better Guard Our Data: <\/strong>AI is nothing without data.
