Experts from Microsoft, Google and Salesforce discuss AI’s future impact

There is a first time for everything, and for Vijay Mital, corporate vice president of AI architecture and strategy at Microsoft Corp., the rise of generative AI has created a dynamic he has never seen before.

Mital (pictured, second from left) described four kinds of adoption, encompassing creating value from personal information, generating useful enterprise solutions, reading information from digital exhaust, and an ability to make high consequence decisions. With generative AI, it’s new territory now for all of these.

“I’ve never seen a technology shift where people can play in all four of these spectrums,” Mital said. “All of these can be built today. It’s a question of how much effort and what’s your expectation. This is the first time I’m seeing that wave.”

Mital spoke with Howie Xu (left), panel moderator and senior vice president of engineering AI/ML at Palo Alto Networks Inc., at Supercloud 4, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. He was joined by Jayesh Govindarajan (right), senior vice president of Salesforce AI at Salesforce Inc., and Warren Barkley (second from right), cloud AI leader at Google LLC, and they discussed perspectives on how generative AI will foster new innovation in the enterprise.

Use cases and learning

One of the key drivers for generative AI has been the many new use cases that people and organizations have created through experimentation with artificial intelligence technology. Barkley cited the example of a professional photographer he had worked with to leverage image modeling in novel ways.

“It’s giving him the ability to just have the prompt for the image models and using that he can drive images that I couldn’t even imagine,” Barkley said. “He understands the space. Now you really don’t have to know Python … it’s a natural language. It’s really opening up.”

What is also opening up is an ability to use generative AI in innovative educational ways. This offers an opportunity to become a new killer app, according to Govindarajan.

“Everyone will have a personal tutor,” he said. “Imagine a tutor that could teach you just in time how to run a marketing campaign as a startup. Personalizing education to uplift, to learn, I think is going to be the biggest killer app.”
