Stakeholder Capitalism, ESG Reporting and Fostering Grassroots Innovation: A Recap of Salesforce at the Davos Agenda Week

The World Economic Forum (WEF) Davos Agenda Week took place over the past several days, with virtual sessions on an array of topics around stakeholder capitalism, sustainability and the future of work. 

Salesforce leaders, including Chair and CEO Marc Benioff, participated in events and panel discussions on how investors and governments can work together to advance stakeholder capitalism in their regions; how business leaders can implement better ESG reporting for their companies; and how best to contribute to the battle against climate change. 

Key News Announcements from Davos

  • Salesforce and other companies announced their commitment to IBC’s Stakeholder Capitalism environmental and social governance metrics, and WEF’s core stakeholder capitalism principles. Salesforce and Accenture also announced an expansion of their partnership focused on helping companies embed sustainability into the core of their businesses and support robust ESG reporting. Salesforce’s Suzanne DiBianca authored a post published by WEF, titled “3 ways global leaders can prioritize ESG impact.”
  • WEF published its 16th annual Global Risks Report, and this year did so for the first time using data visualization tool Tableau. The software is designed to better visualize and understand risks and their drivers identified in the report. Those visualizations include an interactive Tableau dashboard that maps the Global Risks Network map for the upcoming year.
  • As the World Economic Forum launched a coalition of organizations committed to improving racial and ethnic justice in the workplace, Salesforce announced its support.
  • Salesforce became a founding partner in the Global Business Collaboration for Better Workplace Mental Health. The initiative was announced by WEF here, and is covered by Forbes here

Salesforce Participation in Davos events

Salesforce participated in the following sessions and events:

  • Davos Codes: Davos Codes is a Salesforce-hosted learning experience that teaches middle school students computer programming skills and the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals, highlighting the power that technology can bring when used for social good. This was the sixth year of the program and the first time it was held in a virtual format. Learn more about Davos Codes here.
  • Reorienting Boards for the Long Term: Salesforce President and Chief Legal Officer Amy Weaver participated in a session on structuring corporate boards and governance in a manner that is responsible and focused on the long-term health of the company and its environment.   • Implementing Stakeholder Capitalism: Marc Benioff participated in a leadership panel discussion on how business leaders can implement non-financial disclosures for their companies and how investors and governments can work together to advance stakeholder capitalism in their region.   • Uplink and Accelerating Grassroots Innovation: Marc Benioff joined WEF Executive Chairman Klaus Schwab, and Deloitte CEO Punit Renjen to introduce stories of how entrepreneurs are speeding up the global delivery of the UN Sustainable Development Goals via the Uplink platform.   • Fireside Chat with Rainn Wilson: Marc Benioff joined a conversation with actor and activist Rainn Wilson to discuss the latest findings from ‘Arctic Basecamp,’ an Arctic science basecamp run by experts and scientists, with findings reported annually at WEF’s Annual Meeting.
