Salesforce Announces 55K Military Trailblazers Milestone, New ‘Green Tech’ Career Programs to Power Success Now

New commitments help Military Trailblazers learn in-demand skills and land jobs in the sustainability sector

Today, Salesforce announced the launch of two new programs that will equip the military community with the digital skills needed to work in the growing sustainability sector and help companies drive success now.

The news comes alongside new data showing that Salesforce has onboarded 55,000 military members and their spouses on the path to learning digital skills — tracking well ahead of its initial goal of 80,000 within five years.

Salesforce Military trains members of the military community to meet the increased demand for digital skills across every industry,” said Katherine Clark, Director of Program Management for Salesforce Military.

“We’re thrilled to have supported 55,000 Military Trailblazers (and counting) learn and use the skills to build new careers in tech. Now, two new programs will extend those efforts, helping those who give so much to our country forge a new career path in green tech.”

According to Salesforce research, companies racing to achieve ambitious climate goals are finding a lack of qualified applicants for the very jobs that will help drive real progress. A majority (82%) of surveyed knowledge workers say companies’ sustainability efforts are hindered by an inability to find skilled talent.

Salesforce is tackling this challenge with two new initiatives aimed at building a pipeline of skilled talent capable of helping companies reach net zero and deliver success now.

Empowering Military Trailblazers with the training needed to help organizations reach net zero goals

As part of its ongoing sustainability initiatives, Salesforce has committed to empowering 500 Military Trailblazers with the skills needed to implement and manage Net Zero Cloud within their organization.

The Net Zero Cloud Professional program was designed to showcase Military Trailblazers’ proven skills and understanding of the Net Zero Cloud platform to employers. It builds on existing digital skills and taps into a platform that helps businesses understand their carbon footprint and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

To become a Net Zero Cloud Professional, Military Trailblazers must first be certified as a Salesforce Administrator. From there, they can complete the Net Zero Cloud learning content on Trailhead and become a Net Zero Cloud expert in as little as just a couple of weeks.

Connecting Military Trailblazers with organizations seeking sustainability talent

While developing skills is important to starting in a new career, job seekers often struggle to successfully launch their careers in new industries, especially emerging industries like green tech.

To combat this struggle, Salesforce has launched the Green Fellows initiative. A partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes (HOH) program, the Green Fellows initiative will help connect veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses with paid internships at organizations taking climate action.

This new program builds on the Salesforce Fellowship Program, which provides transitioning service members, veterans, and military spouses hands-on experience for a smooth transition into Salesforce careers. To date, more than 95% of fellows have received job offers at the conclusion of their fellowships; and it’s expected to create over $60 million in salaries for military families over the next five years, said Eric Eversole, HOH president and vice president at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

“Combating climate change requires citizens, governments, and businesses to work together, which makes the HOH Green Fellows program an ideal partnership between the Chamber and Salesforce,” Eversole said. “The private sector is working to develop innovative technologies to help communities worldwide address this global challenge. Hiring Our Heroes is honored to facilitate this program and continue to connect certified Salesforce professionals with organizations seeking to hire sustainability talent.”
