The profile, titled<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/wired25-marc-benioff-boyan-slat-ocean-cleanup-plastic\/?mbid=BottomRelatedStories_WIRED25\"> Marc Benioff Bets on Cleanup Tech for Ocean Trash<\/a>, focuses on Slat\u2019s invention that uses ocean currents to push trash into a \u201cpassive collector,\u201d similar to a huge lint trap that can snare debris from the water. The Marc and Lynne Benioff Foundation supports this ocean cleanup effort and the<a href=\"https:\/\/boi.ucsb.edu\/\"> Benioff Ocean Initiative<\/a> at the University of California, Santa Barbara, which focuses on finding solutions that will result in healthier and cleaner oceans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Slat\u2019s passive collector launched out of the San Francisco Bay<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theinertia.com\/environment\/heres-what-the-ocean-cleanup-looks-like-now-that-its-actually-out-in-the-pacific\/\"> last week<\/a>. It\u2019s a 2,000-foot long, U-shaped floating tube suspending a stiff, 3-meter-deep screen that will be deployed at \u201cThe Great Pacific Garbage Patch,\u201d a pair of swirling trash fields located between the US and Japan.
