Salesforce Chairman and co-CEO Marc Benioff weighed in on what can be done to address the affordable housing crisis and homelessness plaguing cities like San Francisco, Seattle, and Boston in a story from USA Today<\/a>.<\/p>

\u201cThere\u2019s been really poor planning in our state and our cities,\u201d Benioff told USA Today\u2019s Marco della Cava. \u201cLook at Paris, they build social housing into their city. You can have an amazing economy with high-end residences but also accommodate everyone. You just have to plan for all income types. The government has to step in, and companies have to help.\u201d<\/p>

The story notes that technology companies around the country are hiring thousands of workers , sending housing prices soaring and making the cost of housing prohibitive for many. Median home values in San Francisco, Seattle and Boston have doubled since 2010.<\/p>

Benioff supported San Francisco’s Proposition C, which passed in November<\/a>, the story notes. Proposition C stipulates that any company with revenues over $50 million would be charged 0.5 percent on income over that mark, with proceeds benefiting the homeless.<\/p>

"Homelessness is my number one priority," Benioff said. "It’s about getting San Francisco cleaned up again."<\/p>
