\u201cSalesforce.com didn\u2019t start in the clouds, but back in 1999, it had a pretty good view,\u201d San Francisco Chronicle business editor Owen Thomas reported in a story today, \u201cAfter 20 years, Salesforce keeps rising through the cloud<\/a>,\u201d upon Salesforce\u2019s 20th anniversary. <\/p>

On March 8, 1999, Marc Benioff, Parker Harris, Frank Dominguez, and Dave Moellenhoff gathered in a small one-bedroom apartment in San Francisco to begin the Salesforce journey. They would build a company based on three breakthrough ideas: anew technology model in the cloud; a subscription-based business model; and an integrated philanthropy model. In the ensuing years Salesforce revolutionized the software industry. <\/p>

\u201cWe don\u2019t really look back,\u201d Harris told Thomas. \u201cI think what was fun back then was everything was new: The software was new, the people were new. Not that I would trade it for where we are now.\u201d<\/p>
