This culminated in his role as the Agency\u2019s CISO, reshaping the CIA\u2019s cybersecurity strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why it\u2019s important: <\/strong>Every organization must adopt a cybersecurity strategy to mitigate when, not if, bad actors target sensitive data. MacMillan\u2019s service at the CIA gave him a deep understanding of the threat landscape facing today\u2019s economy; he now joins Salesforce ready to act as a trusted digital advisor in the shared responsibility of protecting customer data.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Salesforce perspective: <\/strong>\u201cWilliam\u2019s experience and unique knowledge about both the public sector and the importance of public-private collaboration is unparalleled,\u201d said Vikram Rao, Chief Trust Officer, Salesforce. \u201cIt\u2019s more important than ever for public and private sector organizations to collaborate in actively managing cybersecurity risk and building resilience.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In his own words: <\/strong>\u201cMy time in government revolved around efforts to modernize the way federal agencies leverage today\u2019s tech, so it was a natural next step for me to choose to work at a company known as a pioneer in the tech space, where security is built into everything we do,\u201d said MacMillan. \u201cCybersecurity is all about enabling the business. There can\u2019t be any distinction between getting the job done and getting the job done securely.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The big picture: <\/strong>With <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/presidential-actions\/2021\/05\/12\/executive-order-on-improving-the-nations-cybersecurity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Executive Order 14028<\/a> and the Senate unanimously passing the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/senate-bill\/3600\/all-info#:~:text=Introduced%20in%20Senate%20(02%2F08%2F2022)&amp;text=This%20bill%20addresses%20cybersecurity%20threats,assessments%20of%20federal%20risk%20posture.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Strengthening American Cybersecurity Act of 2022 (\u201cSACA\u201d)<\/a>, the federal government is creating new urgency to advance robust cybersecurity protections and standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese orders are not about politics, but rather to set a tone of existential urgency.
