When businesses respond to inquiries within five minutes, there\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conversica.com\/blog\/inbound-lead-follow-up-stats-for-2023\/#:~:text=Business%20Services%20Within%205%20minutes%3A,Source%3A%20Velocify\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a 75% chance<\/a> of turning those leads into customers, making it essential for marketing to handle opportunities quickly and efficiently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Salesforce\u2019s mission is to help customers grow relationships, boost productivity, and expand margins with its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/crm\/worlds-number-one-crm\/?d=cta-body-promo-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">best-in-class AI CRM<\/a> for sales, service, marketing, and commerce, but the company must also achieve those goals across its own sales force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recognizing it had a 10-year-old process that had become highly complex, with lead assignment happening across three different systems and 2 million lines of custom code, Salesforce embraced its role as customer zero, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/how-salesforce-uses-data-cloud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">leveraging Data Cloud<\/a> internally to create a single view of its customers, known as a \u201cCustomer 360 Truth Profile.\u201d By bringing its disparate data and metadata together, Salesforce built a foundation for enterprise-wide <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/artificial-intelligence\/what-is-ai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AI<\/a> and automation, improving <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/marketing\/automation\/guide\/?d=cta-body-promo-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">marketing automation<\/a> and reducing time to lead by 98%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vidyard wp-block-embed-vidyard\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" async src=\"https:\/\/play.vidyard.com\/embed\/v4.js\"><\/script><img decoding=\"async\"  style=\"width: 100%; margin: auto; display: block;\"  class=\"vidyard-player-embed\"  src=\"https:\/\/play.vidyard.com\/pi8Py4JL1zJ67h3LCByVat.jpg\"  data-uuid=\"pi8Py4JL1zJ67h3LCByVat\"  data-v=\"4\"  data-type=\"inline\"  data-width=\"500\"  data-height=\"281\"\/>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As Michael Andrew, SVP of Marketing Decision Science at Salesforce, explained, this allowed the company to deliver high-quality leads to its sales team with enriched data and AI scoring while increasing speed to market, reducing the time required for code changes, and enhancing data quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-embracing-customer-zero\"><strong>Embracing customer zero<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAlmost exactly a year ago, we set out with a beginner\u2019s mind to transform our lead automation process with a new solution that would send the best leads to the right sales teams within minutes of capturing their data and carry us through the next 10 years,\u201d said Andrew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first success metric was \u201cspeed to lead,\u201d which is a measure of how quickly businesses hand off marketing leads to sales teams. The goal was to improve from 20 minutes to less than 1 minute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Secondly, there was a focus on integrating customer and lead data to create a more robust 360-degree profile for each prospect. Doing this would enable better lead assignment and overall productivity of the sales reps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lastly, the aim was to dramatically improve business agility \u2013 specifically decreasing the average time it took to implement assignment changes from four weeks to days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Almost exactly a year ago, we set out with a beginner\u2019s mind to transform our lead automation process with a new solution that would send the best leads to the right sales teams within minutes of capturing their data and carry us through the next 10 years.<\/p>\n<cite>Michael Andrew, SVP of Marketing Decision Science at Salesforce<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-accelerating-success-with-ai\"><strong>Accelerating success with AI<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith trusted data from Data Cloud, we have been able to use AI, machine learning, and automation on the Salesforce Platform to reduce our speed to lead assignment from 20 minutes to 20 seconds, allowing our sales teams to take action faster,\u201d Andrew said. \u201cAnd through the power of Flow, we\u2019ve also made it much faster to adapt our processes to business needs, going from 2 million lines of custom code down to 40,000 inside Salesforce, which allows us to implement changes in a few days instead of weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Andrew noted that lead quality also improved as the team integrated the data with AI and machine learning models to evaluate leads and gauge product interest in real time across various customer interactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They used two machine learning algorithms that processed customer information from Data Cloud with AI to intelligently score each lead 1-5 based on quality and interest across 11 different Salesforce products each prospect is likely to buy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This allows sellers to focus on the \u201chot leads\u201d most ready to speak to Salesforce, as 93% of all leads that are converted to an opportunity are scored 3 or higher. It also helps sales reps identify lower-quality leads and nurture prospects who are not quite ready to buy with AI agents, automation, and other experiences until they see customers are ready to engage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-powered-by-trusted-first-party-data\"><strong>Powered by trusted first-party data<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To get a trusted data foundation, Salesforce built the Customer 360 Truth Profile on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/data\/what-is-data-cloud\/?d=cta-body-promo-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Data Cloud<\/a>, which provided a 360-degree view of customers across their sales, marketing, and customer success departments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Customer 360 Truth Profile consists of over 15 billion records flowing in from over 290 data streams, including Salesforce CRM data, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/marketing\/?d=cta-body-promo-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Marketing Cloud<\/a>, Google Analytics, and <a href=\"https:\/\/trailhead.salesforce.com\/?d=cta-body-promo-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trailhead<\/a>. All that data is then harmonized in Data Cloud, generating more than 120 million unified profiles.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With that holistic view of data, Salesforce has been able to craft more than 550 segments across more than 165 activations, including email, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/slack\/?d=cta-body-promo-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Slack<\/a>, and paid media.
