{"id":83135,"date":"2024-11-12T05:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-11-12T13:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/?p=83135"},"modified":"2024-11-16T11:19:12","modified_gmt":"2024-11-16T19:19:12","slug":"ai-adoption-slows-statistics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/ai-adoption-slows-statistics\/","title":{"rendered":"AI Urgency Is Up but U.S. Adoption Is Slowing, Says New Slack Workforce Index"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>Latest research shows a ripe opportunity for AI agents to address key blockers and help accelerate AI adoption among workers<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite continued urgency on the part of business leaders and growing interest in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/artificial-intelligence\/what-is-ai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AI<\/a> among employees, AI adoption in the U.S. is cooling, according to the new <a href=\"https:\/\/slack.com\/blog\/news\/the-fall-2024-workforce-index-shows-ai-hype-is-cooling\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Slack Workforce Index<\/a>. AI adoption rates among U.S. workers have slowed over the last three months \u2014 growing from 32% to just 33% (compared to an 8 percentage point increase <a href=\"https:\/\/slack.com\/blog\/news\/new-slack-research-shows-accelerating-ai-use-at-work\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a year ago<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to a lack of training from employers, the research points to uncertainty and discomfort around AI usage causing the slowdown in U.S. companies. Seventy-six percent of workers feel an urgency to become an AI expert, and yet almost half of U.S. workers report feeling uncomfortable admitting AI use to their managers for fear they might be seen as incompetent, lazy, or cheating.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image__wrapper\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"#\" class=\"wp-block-image__modal-toggle\" aria-expanded=\"false\" According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/mgi\/overview\/in-the-news\/ai-could-increase-corporate-profits-by-4-trillion-a-year-according-to-new-research\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">McKinsey<\/a>, AI could increase corporate profits by $4.4 trillion a year, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/sales-ai-statistics-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Salesforce research<\/a> finds that sales teams using AI are 1.3x more likely to see revenue increase than those who don\u2019t use it. and professionally acceptable to use AI at work \u2014 and are keeping their usage under wraps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Nearly half (48%) of all desk workers said they are uncomfortable admitting to their manager that they used AI for common workplace tasks.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Among those who said they are uncomfortable, the top reasons include:\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Feeling like using AI is cheating&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fear of being seen as less competent&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fear of being seen as work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-workers-aren-t-using-ai-to-focus-on-executive-priorities\"><strong>Workers aren&#8217;t using AI to focus on executive priorities<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The data reveals a disconnect between what leadership wants employees to focus on and what workers expect they&#8217;ll focus on with the time saved by AI. However, 61% of workers have spent less than five hours total learning how to use AI, and 30% say they\u2019ve had no AI training at all, including no self-directed learning or experimentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Employers will need to solve for the gap in training and get clear about AI guidelines, as current employees and new professionals entering the workforce will gravitate to more supportive workplaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Workers with guidance to use AI saw a 13 percentage point increase in AI adoption since January, while workers with no guidance saw an increase of only 2 percentage points.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3 out of 4 workers say that a prospective employer\u2019s ability to provide and enable workers with AI tools is a factor in their job search.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nearly 2 in 5 workers say they\u2019d prefer working for companies that provide AI tools and enable their use.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>People in their first job are 1.8x
