By openly sharing our approach, Salesforce aims to raise the bar for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/company\/responsible-ai-and-technology\/?d=cta-body-promo-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">responsible agentic AI<\/a> and empower others to advance the technology in a way that is ethical, transparent, secure, and accountable \u2013 ultimately creating a more trustworthy digital ecosystem.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Salesforce\u2019s Trusted AI and Agents Impact Report describes our approach to designing and deploying <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/artificial-intelligence\/?d=cta-body-promo-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AI agents<\/a>, from initial conception and implementation to ongoing assessment and improvement. We hope it will guide organizations on their own agentic AI processes while keeping trust at the center.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The process starts with putting the proper governance in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Trusted AI agent principles and decision-making structures:<\/strong> We develop responsible principles and decision-making structures from the onset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Salesforce developed its first set of <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.salesforceairesearch.com\/meet-salesforces-trusted-ai-principles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">trusted AI principles<\/a> in 2018. As we entered into the era of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/artificial-intelligence\/what-is-generative-ai\/?d=cta-body-promo-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">generative AI<\/a> in early 2023, we augmented our trusted AI principles with a set of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/generative-ai-guidelines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">five guiding principles<\/a> for developing responsible generative AI, as one of the first enterprise companies to publish guidelines in this emerging space. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/responsible-agentic-ai-guidelines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">These principles<\/a> still hold true for the current, third era of AI \u2014 the era of AI agents.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In addition to principles and policies, we put strong decision-making structures in place to ensure the responsible development and deployment of AI agents. Some of these structures include reporting to a committee of Salesforce&#8217;s Board of Directors, reviews and consultations with our AI and Ethical Use Advisory Councils, and senior leadership engagement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ethical use policies: <\/strong>Our implementation of new technologies like agentic AI is thoughtful, and we provide rules on how customers can and cannot use our products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We developed an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/content\/dam\/web\/en_us\/www\/documents\/legal\/Agreements\/policies\/ExternalFacing_Services_Policy.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Acceptable Use Policy<\/a> (AUP) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/news\/stories\/ai-acceptable-use-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AI Acceptable Use Policy<\/a> (AI AUP) to ensure customers can use Salesforce products with confidence, knowing they and their end users are receiving an ethical AI experience from product development to deployment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Product design and development: <\/strong>We operationalize trusted AI into product design and development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/agentforce\/?d=cta-body-promo-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Agentforce<\/a> is also built on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/artificial-intelligence\/trusted-ai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Einstein Trust Layer<\/a>, a comprehensive framework within Salesforce&#8217;s AI ecosystem, designed to uphold <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/platform\/data-privacy-compliance\/what-is-data-privacy\/?d=cta-body-promo-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">data privacy<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/platform\/data-security\/what-is-data-security\/?d=cta-body-promo-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">security<\/a>, and ethical standards while enhancing the effectiveness of AI applications.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To build trustworthy agents, Salesforce implements guardrails across our AI products called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/blog\/trustworthy-AI-agent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">trust patterns<\/a> that are designed to improve safety, accuracy, and trust while empowering human users.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We also ensure <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/company\/product-accessibility-inclusive-design\/?d=cta-body-promo-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">accessibility<\/a> considerations are integrated into product design and development from the onset through our Self-Service for Engineering initiative. safety of AI agents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Model benchmarking, the act of evaluating AI models against trust and safety metrics (e.g., bias, privacy, truthfulness, robustness), enables Salesforce to ensure that its agents perform at the highest level. When a model scores below a certain range on one of our metrics, we use adversarial testing to evaluate the system by feeding it deceptive inputs to uncover weaknesses and improve robustness.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/blog\/red-teaming-ai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ethical red teaming<\/a> is another tactic we implement to improve the safety of AI agents.
