A setback is not necessarily a bad experience, just another life lesson. Coming to acceptance of those terms when you have been wrongly imprisoned for almost 5 years, is obviously easier said than done.

Inspirational speaker Joseph Oubelkas was in prison for four and a half years. His life took a bizarre turn when during a business trip to Morocco he was arrested for smuggling hash. Without evidence or investigation, Joseph was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
 
The time Joseph Oubelkas had to spend in prison was difficult, but he used his entrepreneurial drive to give him strength, set goals for himself, and stay focused. He created something for himself out of the very limited resources he was offered.
 
He was able to grow from his experience and now motivates people from all layers of society, public institutions, schools, universities and businesses in the Netherlands and around the world. Joseph speaks out about his fears and insecurities, his drive, and his dedication to rebuild his former life.

If you want something you have never had, you must be prepared to do something you have never done. Peninah Nthenya Musyimi, founder and director of Safe Spaces Nairobi learned early in life to dream big and take risks to achieve your goals.

Born in in Nairobi’s slums, she learned early on that if she wanted to improve her life, the change was all within her. Through sheer determination, she worked her way through school and university, while tackling challenges sich as hunger, violence, school fees.

When she went back to the slums and in 2008, she established “Safe Spaces Nairobi”. An empowerment program where girls and young women focus on education, sports and reproductive health training to build their self-esteem, learn skills, get jobs and achieve their ambitions.

The program currently serves more than 1200 girls and with her level of perseverance and dedication. And this is just the start!
